Chapter 9, Deep in Snowfall
Late one night it started snowing. Dawn was awake before the others the next day. Dusk woke up second.
"Hey Dusk, there's a place I want to show you," said Dawn.
"Are we going to wait for Willow and Altra to wake up?" Dusk asked.
"No they'll be fine for a while," Dawn replied.
"If you think so Dawn," Dusk trustfully.
So they went to the field. The field with the lone tree from so long before. No one was around at all. The two she cats sat there for a long time in silence. Then Dawn broke that silence.
"Dusk, this place is so familiar," said Dawn,"though I hardly ever came here."
"Yes it seems familiar to me as well," Dusk whispered. "Except I don't remember ever coming here."
"Well that's a little strange isn't it," replied Dawn.
At midday the she cats had grown hungry. So they chose to hunt. They each caught a rabbit. So they sat and ate without speaking. After Dawn finished eating Dusk flicked snow on Dawn's fur. Dawn turned and completely covered Dusk's fur with snow. The two kept this up until they grew tired. Then they took a nap in the fallen snow.
Stars shone above as normal in the ancients' world. Dawn stared at those stars for along time. She wondered what the meaning behind those stars was. Dawn knew everything had meaning. She heard paw-steps and turned around.
"Greetings Dawn," Rock said approaching at a leisurely pace. "It has been a while since we spoke last."
"Yes Rock it has been quite some time," replied Dawn. "Are you simply here to chat or is there something important?"
Rock then did something Dawn never thought the hairless cat COULD do. Rock actually smiled, something he had never done before. Then Rock vanished. The starlight faded away, waking Dawn.
Reals stars were shining when Dawn woke up. Then she realized Dusk was bristling, staring at another cat.
The other cat seemed slightly aged but not really old exactly, and he had long legs and a thin muscular body. The tom looked like he could outpace Dawn in a race. He also had silver tabby and gray markings.
"I didn't know anyone else came here anymore," said the tom. "Who exactly are you, and why are you here on the no-moon?"
"My name is Dusk, and I am here because my friend Dawn asked me to come!" snarled Dusk.
The tom's eyes widened.
"Dusk and Dawn, are you returning to the pride's lands?," asked the tom.
"What is a pride, and what do you mean returning?" Dusk asked.
"Oh yes that's right," the tom faltered, "you wouldn't remember that far back." "I wonder if I can reverse it," the tom said to himself.
"Reverse what?" Dusk asked reaching the end of her limited patience.
"Well don't worry about it you'll understand," he replied.
The tom cat's eyes glowed blue, and Dawn got a strange feeling.
Then it all made sense, their forgotten memories returned.
