The Come Back

The Come Back Two moons passed, sorrowful but eventful. Alpha had picked Coyote as the new deputy, and not a moon after did she get pregnant. The pack had gotten their spirts back, excited that soon a new batch of life would be welcomed into the pack.
Coyote crunched the frost blanked leaves, the grass turning a lumpy ice white. The smell of on coming winter refreshed the dusty scent of fall, the forest was bare with no leaves. Only a couple evergreens stood tall with their green prickles. "Winter is coming" Night Breeze noticed, sniffing around for any signs of prey. "Sure is, better hunt as much as we can today before everything is gone" Coyote nodded. "Right, where should we hunt first?" Night Breeze lifted his muzzle from off the ground. "Um, how about around Running Wind Border?" Coyote wasn't used to being looked up to as a deputy. "Ok Deputy" Night Breeze started padding away. "Please, just call me by my normal name" Coyote blushed. "Ha, if you say so" Night Breeze gave a amused laugh.
The milky full moon shone lazily on Rushing Water's dogs, turning their pelt to a pale white. A few snowflakes fell down, sprinkling the ground white. "Right go dogs go!" Alpha ordered as he rushed out of camp. Coyote shivered as cold snow touched her paws, sneezing as a snowflake fell on her nose. By morning Coyote hoped the sun would melt the snow, but as winter entered it was unlikely to be any sun.
As the pack entered through the spiky pine trees, the other packs barely noticed. Every other dog was crowded around a dog, Rushing Water dogs tried to weave in. As more dogs cleared, Coyote saw it. A floppy eared dog, turned to stare at her. "WATERFALL!" Coyote ran to greet her friend, but Waterfall jumped back surprisingly. Anger surged through Waterfall's eyes, Coyote looked grimly at her friend. "Waterfall, I'm sorry" Coyote bowed to her, "please forgive me". The dogs watched in awe. Waterfall just glared coldly, her eyes icy and sharp. "Got other things to do" Waterfall turned her back to Coyote, "see ya". Coyote hung her head in shame, oh how stupid had she been?
The leaders called for the dogs to gather, and weirdly Waterfall went up with the leaders. Coyote settled with the other deputies, watching Waterfall closely. "Shall I go first?" Waterfall asked. Her alpha gaped at her, but soon looked away. "Great, Running Wind has been suffering" Waterfall frowned, "our very honored warrior Fire has died by murder". Sorrowful howls filled the air, Coyote froze and felt the tears slide her face. Coyote padded away from the crowd. "Our leader has died of old age, and I have taken the responsibility to be the new leader" Waterfall finished. The dogs froze. "Um very nice Waterfall" the Alpha of Twisting Shadows coughed, "our pack is doing good, we have a new deputy Wind". A few cheers rose up, the dogs still frozen in shock. "Great to uh hear the packs are thriving" Alpha looked sadly at Waterfall, "we ourselves are doing well, with our new deputy Coyote". More cheers rose as the dogs thawed, also since Coyote was more popular. Waterfall gritted her teeth at the sound of Coyote's name, but when she saw her former Alpha staring at her. "Ahem" Waterfall silenced the dogs, "well then if no dog has any thing to say or question my pack will be going". "I would like to talk with Waterfall, privately" Rushing Water's Alpha cleared his throat. Waterfall scowled, "if you wish". "Coyote please lead our pack back" Alpha nodded to his new deputy, who lead her pack away.
"Waterfall, what has happened?" Alpha looked deep into Waterfall's eyes. "Nothing, nothing at all" Waterfall dropped her gaze. "Oh really?" Alpha questioned. "yes really" Waterfall woofed coldly. Alpha raised his eyebrows in disbelief, "doesn't seem like it". "LOOK! I'M OK!" Waterfall felt the cold tears fill her eyes, "JUST LEAVE ME ALONE! I'VE MOVED ON!". "Moved on, huh" Alpha barked slowly, "ah, ok". Waterfall felt herself just want to shelter under the big old dog, but stopped herself. "Waterfall look at me" Alpha's gaze softened, Waterfall met his eyes, "if there's every anything that's troubling you I'm here". Waterfall shook her head, and ran away.
