Chapter 8: The Sleepover
"Are you in trouble? YES!" My mother yelled at me. I felt tears welling up in my eyes, but blinked back. Greyson can't see me cry. He stood there awkwardly, his head slightly tipped downward in shame. "You know what, I don't know what's going on. You- you are such a good kid usually. But right now..."She shook her turning red head, and covered her red face, in frustration. My brother, Ryan, walked out of the kitchen and stood and watched my mom yell at me. My sister, Summer, stood at the top of the stairs looking over the balcony looking at us and waiting for what'll happen next. "Avalon Sabrina, get out! Get out of this house. I don't want to see you right now. Just- just leave. I'll deal with this later, just... not now. GO." My mother's words were final. I opened my mouth to speak, but she widened her eyes, daring me to say anything. I close my mouth and marched right out of the front door.
Greyson stayed inside for a second then said, "I'm just gonna, uh, yeah. I-I'm gonna go..." His voice trailed off. He chased me outside. "Avalon! Where are you gonna go?" He asked me. I turned on my heel and looked at him hopelessly. "To your house." I said. It sounded more like a question, though. "Please?"
"Okay, so this is the kitchen, and that's the living room..." Greyson told me as he showed me around his house. His mom said I could stay over, as long as the door to his bedroom was open. "Thank you so much for letting me stay here. And, I'm sorry you had to see that earlier." I said gratefully. "It's kinda my fault, so, don't be." He replied.
"No it is not!"
"Yes, it is. I shouldn't have cut your hair or pierced your ears."
"I'm glad you did." I said flatly.
"Really? But, you didn't want me to, and-"
"AND, I'm glad you pushed me to. I'll really get Hayden's attention now. I hope... Do you think-"
"That you'll get Hayden to like you? With my help, pretty soon, he'll be heels over head for you."
"Oh, so normally, I couldn't get any guy, but now that you've stepped in, I should be able to get any guy walking by? Is that what you mean?" I teased. "That is exactly what I mean." Greyson joked. I smacked his arm, and he smacked back. "Hey, you can't hit a girl!" I said smacking his shoulder. "Yes I CAN!" He smacked me back on the word 'can.' "No you can't! It's in the Guyble!" I smacked him between every few words. "The what?" He asked and stopped smacking. "The book of guy laws! You break one of them, and you aren't allowed to date for a week!" I smacked once I was finished answering.
"That's not true!" He argued.
"Is too!"
"Fine, then. I won't hit you!"
I breathed out.
"I'll... tickle you!"
"What? No!" I laughed and screamed as he tickled me. He picked me up and tickled my sides, causing me to wiggle in unattractive ways.
"Stop..." I breathed and giggled the word out. "Never!" He commanded, swinging me in circles. I flail my arms around. "P-please! Please!" I screamed. He set me down at cough laughed. "Don't you ever do that! You meanie!" I smacked his arm. He raised his hand to hit me, then stopped. "Uh-uh-uh!" I teased him. He sighed. I copied him.
"So, this must be Avalon! I have heard so much about you!" Greyson's mom suddenly showed up and gave me a hug. "Hi, Mrs. Montana." I said. She smiled. "So, did Greyson tell you that you have to keep his bedroom door open?" She asked. Greyson let his head fall to his chest. He slowly raised it. "Mom-"
"He told me." I simply said.
"Oh, good. Because, you know, I wouldn't want anything 'special' going on up there." She winked. Greyson and I backed off in opposite directions. "Eww.... no! Just- no!" I said while Greyson said, "Aw, are you kidding? No!"
"Okay, I know why I am saying no, but why are you? You'd be lucky to get someone like me." I teased, tossing some hair over my shoulder. We all laughed. "But seriously, the door stays open." Mrs. Montana said walking to the oven. "Okay mom, I got it." Greyson said. Then we looked at each other. "Eww! Gross." We said simultaneously.
In Greyson's bedroom, was his bed and shelf and entertainment center. His room was really nice. "Nice room." I complimented him. He nodded. "Thanks. I love it, too." He replied. "Okay, just let me go get some stuff, then we can hang out." I told him. I slipped through his window and across the bridge; into my bedroom. My mom was in the kitchen, so hopefully she won't know I'm here. I threw some stuff in a bag and went back to Greyson's room.
I changed into something to sleep in. "Didn't I buy you those?" Greyson asked when I walked into his room after changing. "Yes, I think you did." I replied.
That night we stayed up forever talking about how the first day of school was in two days and decided what I should wear. We slept out on the bridge with a ton of blankets. The next morning, when I was all packed up and ready to go, I said, "And so, because we slept on the bridge, I can't get in trouble for sleeping at a guy's house. Genius, right?" I declared.
"Is that why you made me freeze to death on that thing?" Greyson joked. "Yep. Except, now I will get in trouble for sleeping on that thing. Or for even setting foot on it." I said, disappointed. "Oh, well."
"See you tomorrow, Avalon!" Greyson called after me as I stepped in my room. "Bye, Greyson." I said, and shut my window.
