Entrance: Margaret
I squeezed my eyes closed as the horse galloped into the sky portal. My insides felt like they were being smushed around. All of a sudden, the strange feeling stopped. I opened my eyes.
I was in the center of a large courtyard, standing on a stone path. People were riding horses in all directions. And in front of me, I could see an enormous castle. It had several turrets topped with colorful flags, and the drawbridge was down. Men in tights and tunics played royal salutes on trumpets as I walked past them, into the castle.
The inside of the castle was breathtaking. There was a golden throne against the far wall, and in the throne sat a little boy. He wore crimson robes adorned with jewels. When he saw me, he let out a hearty laugh.
"Margaret!" he called. "How wonderful to see you! How would you like to hear a story?"
I bowed, my heart pounding with exhilaration. All my life I'd dreamed of living in medieval times, and here I was! "It would be a pleasure, Your Majesty."
The boy leaned back in his throne. "It all started 30 years ago when four children - Christopher, Benjamin, Harriet, and Bea - joined together and created a magical place called the Assemblance. The Assemblance is made up of four kingdoms - Archania, Mechania, Abstractia, and Creativia. Christopher ruled Archania, Benjamin ruled Mechania, Harriet ruled Abstractia, and Bea ruled Creativia. But 28 years later, Bea went missing. Chris, Ben, and Harriet looked everywhere for her, but to no avail. Bea was lost." The boy paused to rub his chin. "Creativia has been without a queen for two years. Yesterday was the day when Chris, Ben, and Harriet's terms as rulers all ran out. I happen to be Christopher, and you have been brought here to replace me as leader of Archania."
I rubbed my forehead. Queen of a medieval kingdom? That was beyond my wildest dreams! "One question, King Christopher - what am I supposed to do?"
Chris slid down from hid throne. "The rulers of the realms have several jobs. Job Numero Uno - keep peace in your kingdom. We can't have wars." He walked over to me and stared at the ceiling, deep in thought. "The second job is to do whatever you can to make your kingdom better. And job number three," he paused and met my eyes. "Always assist the other three rulers whenever they need help. Bea needs your help, Margaret. Are you going to help her?"
I sighed and walked over to the throne. "Yes." I said. "Now, do I sit here, or what?"
The king smiled. "Yes, you do. Oh, and there's one other thing you need to know - if you ever have any questions, raise your right hand, say 'I would like to go to the core,' and go to the library!"
And with that, Christopher disappeared in a swirl of colors.
