The Note

During school the next day at Crimson’s locker, Nate was trying to work out a way to ask her to the dance, he had stayed up all night thinking, and he totally forgot the Christmas party! Now he had to make up for that, and ask her! He’d never forgive himself if he didn’t ask her. He really liked her.
“Will you go to the dance with me?” he heard a few feet away. He spun around and saw the back of what looked like Crimson’s head. “Yeah, of course.” replied a voice that was not Crimson’s. Thank goodness! He thought. I can still ask her. Only, in order to do that, he needed Crimson. He hadn’t seen her all day, other than the one class they were both in, but they sat across the room from each other, so, that sucks! He’d just drop by her house after school, and straight up ask “Do you want to go to the dance with me?” like that boy and “Crimson”. Crap! He needed to get her a present! He heard from Crimson’s mom that her daughter was eyeing a dress at the mall the other day. He’ll ask her which one it was, and ta-da! Christmas present! Hope she didn’t already buy it herself! He thought to himself.
Later, after he bought the dress, he stopped to give Crimson her present. He walked in and her mother said she was upstairs, so he could give her her present. He walked upstairs and into her room, since the door was open. He se the present down and waited, figuring that she was just in the bathroom. But then he noticed a piece of paper on her desk. He read it and this is what it said:

Crimson, will you go to the dance with me? Brian.

Oh no! Someone already asked her! He started to panic. And not just anyone! It was BRIAN! Did she say yes yet? Hold on, she hardly even knows him! He hardly knows her! Then, how did he know her 3 favorite colors? It couldn’t have been a coincidence!
His thoughts were interrupted by Crimson herself when she was walking in. “hey! What’s up? Oh, you didn’t come to the party, so here’s your gift.” she seemed really happy. “Oh, yeah. Sorry about that, I was, um, busy with school stuff, and, uh, I lost track of time.” what he said wasn’t a total lie. “Here’s yours.” he replied handing her the present with a poorly tied bow.
Vvvvt… Vvvvt… Vvvvt…  her phone vibrated on her desk. She grabbed and said she’d be just a second. “Hello! Hi! Do I have an answer? Yeah! I do. My answer is yes. See ya at school! Bye!” she hung up. “Is there anything else you need?” she said putting the phone back down.
“Nope! That’s it! I have lots of homework, and, stuff...so see ya!” he knew who that call was from, it was BRIAN. He felt mad, angry, and slightly bitter. He was too late. He didn’t ask in time.
“Oh, before you go,” she stopped him. “Can you ask your cousin, Aaron right, if his band can play at the school dance, because I can’t find anyone else to perform.”
“Sure. his band’ll play for anyone. I’ll let ‘em know” he said trying to keep his voice from cracking.
“Thanks. Bye!” she sounded as if nothing in the world could bring her down.
