We all stared at each other for a few moments.
"Lady Artemis, I'm so sorry. I- I just, well, it's complicated. Don't hurt Hunter, hurt me. I get it if you're furious, I would be too. I broke the sacred oath. I have brought shame to the Huntress name," I rambled on. Tears started to streak down my face. I didn't want to have to choose between being a Hunter with all of my friends, or being with Hunter. I knew he would be perfect, better than, dare I even think of his name, James. I could see it in his eyes that he would be good for me, that he wouldn't hurt me.
"Mia Dean, you have been my loyal servant for many years, and you have not disobeyed me once. I know you are loyal to me, and I know you would give your life to Olympus, but I also know that you, like many other girls before you, want to find your soulmate," Lady Artemis stated. She smiled at me. Not an evil or resentful smile, but a kind understanding one. She giggled a bit, which seemed very unusual. "Apollo said he saw this coming, but I didn't believe him of course, because, well, it is Apollo."
"And?" I asked. By this time me and Hunter weren't even touching, but our hands slid into each others.
"And," Artemis continued," If you would like to be with this, boy, then I must kill you."
I gulped, and he gasped.
"But, I won't because I know you, Mia. You must be rejected from the Hunt though, which means that you will no longer be immortal, but I will let you continue the life of a normal Half-Blood at the age of fourteen," She said.
We both let out a breath. I perked my head up. I could be with Hunter. We could spend our life together. I only met him last week, but I knew. We knew. We could, we would spend our life together.
"I owe my live to you, Lady Artemis," I said.
She nodded. "Yes, you did before this too, so nothing really changed," she giggled. For being a goddess, she really did have a sense of humor.
I stepped forward, ready for her to take the effects of a Huntress off me.
It all happened in seconds. The faint glow on my skin that I had gotten used to after all these years, had dimmed. I was no longer a Hunter of Artemis. I was a normal Half-Blood, ready to start my new chance at life.
"Well, I must be off. I have a few girls who need to take the oath, and we need to set up camp somewhere close," Lady Artemis said.
I nodded. "Thank you again, Lady Artemis," I whispered.
She winked, and then disappeared.
