Family
The first thing I remember is my siblings. Like me, they were hungry and so we wriggled around, looking for food. We discovered Mama's milk and drank. She seemed happy to be with us. Sometimes Mama got up, but because I was so little I didn't know what she was doing. After a week or so, my eyes and ears started to open. They weren't very sharp yet, but I could still see blurry images and could hear. I learned I had three siblings, one sister, and two brothers. The first thing we heard was something I didn't recognize yet- people. They were yelling at somebody, and they yelled back. I whimpered and buried into Mama's fur. The voices were loud and high-pitched, and I did not like them.
Eventually, me and my siblings started to see better, and we now could hear Mama talking to us. She had also named us! My name was Eclipse. It is some sort of thing in the sky, I think. My brothers' names were Bone and Shadow, and my sisters' was Luna.
Luna was the runt of the litter. She was the smallest of us, and very timid, though actually, she could be really protective. Mama said she would be a good mother someday, and I agreed.
One day, we went outside for the first time. We had been living in a shed, so this was new to us. The grass was soft and smelled kind of tangy. There were also flowerlike things with fuzzy yellow tips all around us. I later learned these were called dandelions. There were also crunchy dry leaves, which did not taste good.
I do not know how much time had passed that day, but soon Mama told us it was almost nighttime and it was time to go to the shed. "You will meet your daddy tomorrow," she said as we settled down. "Yay! Daddy!" Bone exclaimed, and we all peppered Mama with questions. "What does he look like?" "Where is he now?" "Is he nice?" Mama sighed and laid down. "Tomorrow," she said, "I will tell you."
The next day we all woke up quickly and were so excited Mama could barely pick us up to take us to Daddy. "Hold still," she ordered us. She was then able to take us to a grassy patch. A large black dog that looked like me stood there. He touched noses with Mama. "Everyone, this is Blackie, your father." Me and my siblings all chorused, "Hi, Daddy!" He admired us for a second, then asked us if we wanted to play. "Just don't run fast," Mama told him. "You know they're just little puppies." "We're fine," Daddy assured her. so we bounded off, then ran in circles and chased our tails. It was very fun and we soon got thirsty.
"Let's drink from the pond over there," Daddy suggested. We had to cross the road, so Mama looked around carefully. It was safe, so we walked across. We were in the middle of the road when we heard a sound. Honk! Honk! We stopped in our tracks. A huge truck, driving straight towards us!
