Chapter 10
You took in a deep breath and let it out slowly, steeling your nerves as you stood in front of the mayors house. You know you had met him before, but it was such a brief meeting that it was really like you hadn't met him at all. It would be your official introduction to the mayor, the man who would be building your very own house in the dark land of Halloween town and a bad impression could very well make him say 'I change my mind, I want her gone.'No pressure!
You feel Jacks hand on your shoulder and look up at him, him smiling back at you with a tender expression, "Don't worry (Y/N), he'll love you I'm sure of it."
You nod your head- not really believing him but you'd rather get this over with than have him try to raise your already low self-esteem. He takes the hint and knocks on the door, the echoing pounds heard reverberating throughout the house even from the outside.
A quiet "Just a minute!" Was heard, and within a few seconds the door was opening and there stood the mayor. You had to look down because he was so short, it made you smile a bit.
"Ah! Hello Jack! And (Y/N), you look as lovely as you did last night." He compliments with a large grin, making you blush lightly.
"Thank you... Jack said that you would build me a house here?"
The mayor gasps and steps aside, "Of course! Come in come in, we have a lot of work to do if we are designing a brand new house!"
Jack leads you inside with a hand against your back, the gesture warm and... familiar. Though the memory is fuzzy it brings you a sense of deja vu, how odd...
You all sit down in the living room: you and Jack on the couch and the mayor seated across from you on an armchair. His stubby arms reach into his coat and he pulls out a black sheet of rolled paper, spreading it onto the coffee table before you and holding it in place with some coasters.
"Now! First things first, where would you like your house to be?"
You blinked in surprise. You hadn't thought about that, you just kinda... assumed that they would have a place for you. You barely even knew the town- let alone its geographical landmarks- how would you decide? You look to Jack for help.
Jack hums, "Well, the most obvious answer is somewhere in town. You could be more downtown where the shops, town hall, and the lab could be. Or you could be more on the outskirts near me and the cemetery. Or perhaps you could be more secluded and have your house near the river by..." his gaze hardens, "The trick-or-treaters. I wouldn't recommend that however, they're nasty and beneath them lies Oogie Boogie, notorious for starting trouble here."
"Or maybe you can live near the pumpkin patch, across from the cemetery. There's a large hill that you could perhaps like to have at your doorstep, it's a great place to think- I know. Or maybe you can even live in the forest if you wanted, the air there is very serene and there are even a few secrets there waiting to be discovered." He winks.
The mayor nods, "All those places are doable. Which would you prefer?"
You tilt your head and hum, thinking a bit before coming to your decision, "I think I'll live in (your choice)"
Jack smiles and the Mayor nods, "Very good choice! And I see no problems with it." The mayor hums and writes it down in the paper before starting to sketch, "Now, how do you envision your house to be? Nothing to elaborate though, we need to save some resources for other newcomers!" He laughs.
You giggle and place a hand to your chin, "Well... I've always wanted a house that..." and you list off all your wants and all your visions, even helping with the sketch a bit to get the details just right. You wanted your house to be perfectly you, and so you left no detail spared. (Describe the house you want in the comments! I want to know what you guys would want in a situation like this)
The mayor sketched out the final line and looks it over, smiling wide and nodding, "It's perfect! I love it! I shall gather a team and we will start building today. It should be ready in about a week. You do have a place to stay until then correct?"
You hesitate and look at Jack who smiles and nods, "Yes, she'll be staying with me for now."
The mayor nods and rolls the paper back up before putting it in his coat once again, "Very well! You two can be on your way, I have a house to build!"
You laugh and stand up, waving at the mayor before making your way to the door, "Thank you mayor! I really appreciate it!"
He looks a little bashful, waving off your thanks, "It's no trouble at all Miss (Y/N), now stay safe! Both of you!"
You and Jack laugh as you exit the house, descending the front steps and exiting the gate before standing in silence. You had no idea what to do next.
Jack looks at you and quirks a grin, "Would you like it if I gave you a tour?" He asks, offering his hand out for you to take.
You blush and nod, taking his boney hand in your own soft one delicately as he begins to lead you throughout the spooky place, describing everything with a twinkle in his sockets and you following behind with a skip to your step.
But little did you two know that your happiness would soon be threatened.

Sphinx walks into Boogie's lair, hips swaying sensually as she looks around for the big disgusting sack.
"Oogie! Where are you?" She calls, turning her head at the sound of shuffling. Oogie came out of his den with a not-so-pleased look on his face, raising an eyebrow as he slurps some bugs from his hand- it seemed she had came during dinner seeing the bowl of critters in his hold.
"What is it you little brat?" He barks, walking up to her with an annoyed expression, "If you can't tell I'm kinda busy here, and I would oh so appreciate it if ya left me alone!" He huffs.
Sphinx isn't fazed, crossing her arms with a pointed scowl, "I don't wanna be here either bean bag, but I'm afraid the day has come." She sighs, sitting on the raised platform in the center of the gambling wheel that was his lair.
"What are you jabbering about now?" He asks, scooping up some more bugs and swallowing them whole. He was still recovering from his and Jack's last encounter, still replenishing his life source now that Sphinx had finished sewing his new body.
"(Y/N), the oh so true love of Jack has finally came down here for her warm welcome. She came into my shop today wanting her wedding dress repaired." She says, looking down at her nails uninterestedly as Oogie starts laughing maniacally.
"Oohoohoo~ Is that so hm~?" He snickers, tapping his chin with his pointed arm, "Well then, a warm welcome she will receive! In fact, I saw we invite her down here for a welcoming party~!"
"Now slow down there you potato sack, what are you even going to do with her once you got her hm?" Sphinx asks, crossing her legs and looking at him with a raised eyebrow.
"It's simple! I'll... toss her in boiling lava!" He laughs, but Sphinx wasn't impressed.
"Didn't you try that with Sandy Claws and Sally?"
He stops laughing and places a hand to his mouth, "Oh yeah."
"How about," Sphinx proposes, hopping off the raised platform to stir up to Oogie, "We make her one of us? Jack already hates you after your last attempt, what kind of psychological blow do you think that'd be if his 'one and only' joined you?" She grins mischievously, her pointed teeth in clear view, "I think it's genius really~"
Oogie nods, "It is! I'm so glad I thought of it!" He laughs, already walking away by the time Sphinx realized what he said.
"Wh- You fat oaf! Come back here so I can beat your ass!"
