Death of a Batchelor
Sapphire sat alone in an empty restaurant. Her friends had planned a party yet she seemed to be the first to come. She wasn't really in the mood for this partk, back at home Surge had been worried about her. Telling her she needs to rest and she isn't acting like herself. Sapphire, didn't disagree, but she didn't know what that something could be. She had curled her locks for the occasion and worn her usual black and white attire. It all seemed so bland. So boring. She never really did stand out in the crowd. Getting bored, Sapphire stood up and strolled towards the empty bar and poured herself a drink of red wine. It also tasted bland. Everything was bland. She was bland. Finally having enough he looked towards the stage to her left where a lonely microphone stood. She started to hum a tune. A slow, melancholy tune. The sound of her voice danced around the room making seem a little more alive. She took a deep breath and began to sing.~Do I look lonely?
I see the shadows on my face~
Sapphire frowned as the room seemed to become darker. A car outside passed by, its light on one side of her face like a mask before driving past and the light fades.
~People have told me
I don't look the same
Maybe I lost weight
I'm playing hooky
With the best of the best
Pull my heart out of my chest
So you all can see it too~
Sapphire clutches her dress where her heart would be and mimes pulling it out as she sang smiling to herself softly.
~I'm walking the long road~
She gets up from her seat and walks across the stage lining as if it was a tight rope.
~Watching the sky fall~
She looks out a high tainted glass window and watches the moon shine down on her. A sudden flash and people in fancy bright dresses were dancing around the room with their partners. Their presence made the room come alive and light up. In another flash this was gone and Sapphire was left on her own, the room dull and long with her dress bland. Unlike theirs. She looks at her own
~The lace in your dress
Tangles my neck~
She reach up to her chest just under her neck and lays her hand there softly. Her fingers lace with her cheap pearl necklace but she's soon lets go and turns towards the strange where the lone microphone stands.
~How do I live?~
She picked up her dress so she can run up the steps of the stage, her heels echoing throughout the room. She can be the light, she doesn't have to be bland. She gripped the mic stand with her right hand and leaned forward, the mic in her right as she sing she into it.
~The death of a batchelor
Oh oh oh
Letting the water fall~
Sapphire put all her power into the vocals and closed her eyes. The room grew a little brighter. She even had a stage light turn on and be used as a spotlight.
~The death of a batchelor
Oh oh oh
Seems so fitting for
A happily ever after
Whoooo
How can I ask for more?
A lifetime of laughter
At the expense of a death of a batchelor~
Sapphire opened her eyes and grinned and she gazed around the room. The room had indeed brightened and e spot light made her dress shine. She didn't need a big fancy dress or bing jelwery to light up a room. She just needed to be herself.
~I'm cutting my mind off
Seems like my heart is going to burst~
She kicked her high heels off and jumped off the stage, landing softly on the velvet carpet floor.
~Alone at a table for two
And I just wanna be served~
She sat down at her place on the empty table and laid herself across the empty seats. She was clearly enjoying herself now.
~And when you think think of me
Am I the best you ever had?~
She thought about Surge am deathly pictured him sitting next to her and laughing along. Then she came to terms with the fact he wasn't really there but instead at home worrying about her. She felt bad. Maybe she could have asked him to come with her? No, better yet. Just stayed at home. Neither of them wanted to be at this party.
~Share one more drink with me
Smile even though your sad~
Sapphire sat up from her position and looks away from the chair next to her.
~I'm walking the long road
Watching the sky fall~
She knows that he is worried about her but she is fine. If she can light up a room with only her presence she can be herself again. She just needed to tell him. A party wasn't going to help. With all the fake smiley chit chat and the heavy hair, dresses and jewellery.
~The lace in your dress
Tangles my neck
How do I live?~
She reached up to her necklace again and this time pulled it off forcefully. God she hated that cheap necklace.

Of the death of the batchelor~
She had gotten up and walked across the room to where a old juke box stood. She instered a coin and old fashioned music started to play. She strolled to the centre of the room and mimed dancing with a partner and enjoying herself. Yet the frown didn't leave her face. Instead she danced by herself and leaped across the room. She giggled and the smile soon returned. She jumped onto the stage once more.

Suddenly all light and sound from the room dropped off. Sapphire furrowed her eyebrows in confusion until she heard the loud clopping of high heels across the floor from outside. Everyone was arriving. Quickly Sapphire ran around, grabbed her shoes, her broken necklace and put them into her bag and sat at her table. People on big dresses and lots of make up poured in and started dancing. The room lit up once more and music started to play. Sapphore drank the rest of her red wine, a small smile on her face. She stood, pulled her bag over her shoulder and walked out keeping her head low. She looked bland compared to the other guests but she didn't care. She knew she wasn't. Yet everyone in the room would never know how she lit up a room by herself. Well, someone knew. Turning to the reader, Sapphire winked before closing the door behind her.
