Chapter 15: Leo
I can’t believe her! I can’t believe that she didn't know that he liked her in that way! I also can’t believe that she is actually mad at me about this! She is the one who had a complete lover bird under her wings.I decided to take a quick walk around the area to let out some steam. I circled a couple buildings, walking as angrily as possible, though I tried to calm myself down. Once I finished, and I thought I wouldn’t lash out on Georgia as soon as I saw her, I decided to go back inside the hut so I didn’t risk being caught any longer.
“I’m, uh, I’m sorry,” I muttered to Georgia, who was sitting on the ground staring at the note from Apollo. I noticed she had his glasses on top of her head, resting over her frizzy dark brown hair. I saw that her cheeks were stained with tears, and her eyes bloodshot, which made me feel a thousand times worse.
“No, no. I'm the one who should be sorry,” she said with a hint of regret in her tone.
“Look, I’m sorry I said those things. It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have done what I did. Can we be friends again?” I said in a calm voice.
She stood up, slowly walking towards me. She put her arms around me, resting her head on my shoulder. I gently stroked her silky smooth hair.
“Do you want to go bury him now?” I asked softly.
She nodded her head silently, then started walking out the door. I had already dug his hole before we had the fight, so everything was ready. I walked with Georgia over where I had put him, and together we lifted him up.
“Thank you, Leo,” she muttered while we slowly lowered his limp body into the grave.
Georgia helped me push all the dirt back in, then she proceeded to decorate the slight hill of the burial spot, making a beautiful pattern with everything she had.
She said a few words of peace, then she placed the last decoration. For the final touch, she laid his glasses centerfold, putting them on top of a sunflower.
I hugged her, as I saw a tear fall down to her cheek. I can’t believe I was ever mad at this girl. I would never be able to recover if I lost her.
We walked back inside the hut, and just sat down by each other, feeling the hay under us. I put one arm around her and held her tight. I noticed that she still held on to her note from Apollo, but for once, it didn’t bother me one bit. We just stayed there for a little while, sitting in the thick silence.
We both decided it would be best if we moved on, just to make sure we didn’t get caught. Afterall, we were fugitives now. We packed up our limited things, for the last time, most likely. I gave Georgia the bow and quiver, as I had a feeling that she would need it. I shouldered the pack Georgia gave me a while back and made sure my blades were sharp. I looked back once, then I walked out, Georgia at my side.
The two of us quickly snuck over to the door we went through yesterday, but this time, we heard no guards. We climbed the massive quartz staircase, and then opened the door slightly to see if there were any guards. It looked like there was only one, but he appeared to be passed out drunk in the room across from us.
We took a right, leading into the heart of the building. We both had to hide from the occasional guard, but other than that we were pretty discreet. We winded around the mass of corridors and big episenter rooms, making sure we weren’t seen.
We finally found a room with a tag on the door, that read:
DANGER: DO NOT GO IN!
Naturally, we thought it was best to go in. I unsheathed my daggers, and Georgia drew an arrow from the quiver and then nocked it in the bowstring.
I then kicked open the door, which was something I have always wanted to do. Finally, we walked in.
