Assasin from the shadows
I looked at Rain curiously, I couldn't help it. It was just interesting knowing about who he was."That's really cool, I'm a pure gray angel. There's not many of us either, about three total. At least according to history."
Rain sighed and looked down.
"That's cool also, but if I show any sign that I have deer blood in me I'll be killed... Deer horns are worth millions."
I tensed, and hugged him tighter. I wrapped my wings around him.
"I won't let that happen."
He smiled a little and looked up at me.
"Thanks Nightmare."
"No problem. If your in danger I should be able to sense it and come, so I can safely say I can protect you from all harm... Just as I know you'll protect me too." I touched my crystal for a moment. It glowed slightly with my touch.
"I'll protect you with my life."
I squeezed him a little more. The memories of what happened to Nico flashed through my mind, my eternal curse. Finally I spoke, getting past the lump in my throat.
"Maybe not with your life."
"What do you mean? I don't want you gone. So if that's what it takes I'll do it."
"Because I might live a million years, go through a million things, but I will not have you dying over me." I spoke softly.
He sighed.
"Alright.."
I sighed and rested against Rain, closing my eyes. I tried to distract myself from thoughts of Nico. When that didn't work, I opened my eyes again. I saw the two little horns on Rain's head, poking through his hair like sticks in a pile of snow.
"Hey Rain, can I be honest about something..?"
"Be honest about what?"
I hesitated, embarrassed. Now I HAD to say it.
I whispered, "Your horns are really cute." Then just as quickly as I said it, I vanished. I retreated deep within my crystal, hiding out the embarrassment. I had no idea why I said that, but I strangely meant it.
What the hell was wrong with me?
I blushed and felt Nightmare disappear behind me. The crystal grew warm again. I did not expect him to say that. After a moment I smiled a little and looked down at the necklace, then sighed and got up. I went outside where Clove and Clover were sure to be.
I looked down at Clove.
"Why is Clove on the ground choking?"
"She's choking on ice, she'll be fine." Clover didn't sound very worried.
"If you say so."
"I do say so."
"Where's Hydra?"
"Oh he flew away a few minutes ago, Clove was bothering him."
I shrugged.
"What's new? Anyways I'm going to go take a walk then I'm finally going to see my sister again. See you two later." I walked away, going through the forest.
"Bye!"
I walked for awhile. When I started getting tired I sat down and grew some little flowers in the grass with a wave of my hand. I smiled as I watched the sprouts shoot up, turning into little colorful blossoms. Suddenly I heard a whistle, and the next thing I knew my arm exploded in pain. I cried out and clutched my arm, looking down to see a arrow protruding from my bicep.
Before I could react, Nightmare had appeared, holding his scythe. He stepped in front of me and narrowed his eyes at the dark trees surrounding us.
"Come out or else."
A woman stepped out of the shadows. She narrowed her eyes at Nightmare, studying him.
"Move away. Your not a target." She spoke, all the while keeping the same expressionless look on her face. She looked like she could kill without hesitation. I swallowed, suddenly worried for Nightmare.
"I'm not letting you kill him. Who are you?"
She raised her chin up slightly.
"My name is Alma, and I come from the Nishinori lands. Now get away the target must be killed."
He growled, and brought out his wings.
"Try me."
Alma sighed and took out a katana. She looked Nightmare dead in the eye.
"You leave me no choice."
"Neither do you." Without any hesitation he swung at her, intending to cut her from shoulder to hip.
His blade never reached its target.
She dodged it at the speed of light, moving far more graceful and fast then thought possible. Nightmare growled and swung again, this time a lot faster to try and match her speed. But to no avail. Even though he was a strong and determined opponent, Alma was simply too experienced to beat her single handedly. Nightmare seemed to realize this. He paused and stepped back, standing in front of me again. He whispered to me.
"While I distract her you need to teleport away. Don't let her hit you again."
I nodded, not even questioning him. I ran. It was all I could do. Like Nightmare said, he was immortal. At least in part. If he thinks he could beat her, there was no doubt in my mind he would succeed.
At least, I prayed he would.
