Chapter VIII -- Mae

I wake up on a strange bed in a strange place in a strange world.
Sunlight pours through the single, huge window on one wall. I feel like I'm being strangled by silk comforters. Strange but ethereally beautiful metals are everywhere.
I blink slowly, trying to drain the sleep out of my eyes, before rolling out of bed. Somehow, though, the sheets are stuck into the bedframe, and wrapped around me in some weird way, and I suddenly feel like a small insect caught in a spiderweb.
After what seems like an eternity, I finally free myself from the evil blankets.
The room is pretty empty. The silence seems to make my head -- which is still burning -- thud even harder.
A single door is on the wall opposite the window. I walk towards it, nearly tripping on the floors in my half-asleep state.
The knob won't turn. I try again, shoving harder, but it's locked.
I look all the way up and down the doorframe, but I can't find any way to unlock it. Panic seeps in. I'm trapped here. Where am I?? What's going on??
I start desperately clawing at the wall as the blackness veils my vision again and my consciousness slips away into a dream.
