A Dementor is a monster. Dementors suck out ALL the happiness in you and maybe your soul. Now you may think, well I can just hide from them, sorry no. Dementors can see through invisibility cloaks so don't try to hide they can sense happiness. Dementors are Monsters. They make Azkaban dreadful. There is one way to stop these monsters. So take out your wand. Think of something VERY happy. Now, yell EXPECTO PATRONUM!!! This is the only spell to stop Dementors known. Don't worry if you didn't get it.
