Ocean Blue

Ocean Blue

15 year old Marlinia Flotsam was born on the distant island of Jersey (if your thinking New Jersey i'll end you). She's always lived with her older brother, a surfer who often leaves her alone whilst he's out winning whatever he could get his hands on. On the night of her 15th birthday something enchanting happened, whilst on a moonlight walk she came across a boy, half fish half boy. A merboy. The next day she wakes up with no memory of the night before to find if she's exposed to a certain amount of water her legs will become a tail. Struggling to keep her secret and resisting the want to swim away she must avoid water in an island surrounded by it.

You were never there.

You were never there. We went back to my house to find my brother waiting and soaked. He pushed Leo out of the house.
"What the Hell are you up to?" He yelled. I'd never seen my peaceful naïve brother like this.
"I don't know what you mean," I sighed. He narrowed his eyes at me.
"I know I haven't been the best brother.........." He started but I cut him off.
"YOU KNOW WHAT, YOU HAVENT BEEN A BROTHER AT ALL!" I yelled with fury at him. The sink started shaking.
"YOU'VE LEFT ME TO DO EVERYTHING, COOK, CLEAN, WORK! THE LIST GOES ON!" I continued.
"YOU ARE NEVER THERE FOR ME AND YOU NEVER WILL!" I screamed at him as tears rolled down my face. He moved to comfort me and I pushed him away.
"You never once tried to comfort me about mum and dad! You just assumed that I was like you and buried it somewhere! MUM AND DAD ARE DEAD AND ALL YOU DO IS NOTHING! YOU DONT CARE IF IT HURTS ME! ALL I'VE EVER DONE FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS IS SUPPORT YOU! I BETTER LEAVE YOU NOW BEFORE WHATS LEFT OF MY LIFE DIES WITH YOU!" I screamed and ran out the door and straight for the beach. I didn't stop when I heard Leo shout after me.

I'd been surfing at the bay for hours. The sun was in the sky making the ocean shine like sapphires. I whipped my hair out my eyes and stared at the sea as I walked out of the ocean with my board. That's when I hear the shouting. I turned to find Marlinia running towards me with Leo shouting and running after her. My first thought was 'ha she's finally came to her senses and realised that I'm the boy for her!' I stood there triumphantly but as she got closer I saw the tears running down her cheeks and the hopeless and devastated expression on her face. She ran past me and into the sea. My first assumption was Leo had done something to her so I stopped him with a shove.
"Leave off!" I hissed. Leo shoved back, his face consorted with rage. He turn towards her and his eyes turned soft and sad. Then they turn to fear. I turned to see what he was looking at. My heart dropped and shock filled me.

(The next part is written from Leo's point of view)
There she floated. Her hair shining in the summers sun looking like specks of gold. Her tears glistened like diamonds. Above all the other things that made her stunningly each catching was her pale blue and green tail. It shimmered in the water. Using Hugo's shock to my advantage I ran into the ocean and scooped her up in my arms. I was soaked almost to my chest but I didn't care. I carried her to the shallows and she cried in my arms. I stroked her head as Hugo started at us like we were aliens.
"He didn't come after me, Leo. He let me run," She cried into my chest.

(The next part is written from Marley's view)
It was too late Hugo had seen me, it wouldn't be too long before I was tied up in a net. In fear I heaved myself towards deeper water and as soon as my tail started to move I was off. The thrill the water sent through me was incredible. I never wanted to leave Leo but I believed he would be safer if I did. Anything could happened to him if I were found out. As Hugo and Leo fought on shore I left to the sea, the only place I could be free.
