Leat has no formal education, though people have tried to teach her. This seems pretty obvious, considering she lived on the streets, and then in somewhat of a base. They did teach the children at Sanctuary, but she never attended. She always ditched class. Of course, just by listening, she's pretty good with Grammar. And she knows how to read because Serene(who always paid attention to lessons) taught her that much. Just don't get me started on her spelling, math, etc.
