Goldpaw learns to fight
Willowpelt and Goldpaw walked inside Bluestar’s den so Goldpaw could speak with Bluestar.
“Oh Good! You're awake!” Bluestar meowed “Are you going to the gathering at the Fourtress?”
“What’s a fourtrees?” Goldpaw asked.
“It’s where all four clans get together.” Bluestar explained..
“But I thought we were enemies with the three other clans.” Goldpaw said. “Are we friends with them?”
“We are a peaceful clan to the others ” Bluestar explained. “But we fight if it's absolute necessary!"
"Okay!" Goldpaw replied. "I would love to go to the Fortress, but they will bully me for being a kittypet."
“We will make sure that won’t happen.” Bluestar said, shaking her head. “Now you and Willowpelt go train at Sandy Hollow."
Willowpelt and Goldpaw went out of Bluestar’s den and went to Sandy Hollow.
“Now, lemme give you a tip.” Willowpelt said. “Never let your guard down, warriors from different clans can attack when you least expect it.”
“So never let my guard down.” Goldpaw said. “Got it!”
“You don’t want to be too stiff and cautious.” Willowpelt said. “You would want to relax from time to time.”
“Got it!” Goldpaw meowed. “When will we get to the actual fighting?”
“Now.” Willowpelt replied. “First lesson, come at me.”
Goldpaw jumped towards at Willowpelt, only to see her stepping aside and meeting the ground.
“Why did you move?” Goldpaw asked, shaking the dust from her fur.
“That's what the enemy is going to do when you are out in battle.” Willowpelt replied. “Then when you are on the ground, the enemy will have a clear shot at getting on your back and attacking you from there.”
“Ok, now I understand!” Goldpaw said, getting ready.
“Another tip.” Willowpelt began, “get the enemy from their side, they will be ready if you attack them up front, but will not be ready if you attack from the side.”
“Got it!” Goldpaw said. “Anything else?”
“Oh, yeah, one more thing.” Willowpelt replied. “If they see you go to their side, then they will attack you unexpectedly. You have to take them by surprise.”
Goldpaw nodded then waited for a few seconds, then unexpectedly she jumped on Willowpelt’s side and pinned her on the ground.
“Jeez, you're fast!” Willowpelt said. “the enemy will never stand a chance!”
Feeling proud of herself, Goldpaw released Willowpelt.
Without warning, Goldpaw leaped on Willowpelt, pinning her on the ground again.
“Gotcha!” Goldpaw said. “Never let your guard down!”
“Wow, I’m Impressed.” Willowpelt said. “Good Job GoldPaw. You know what?”
“What?” Goldpaw asked.
“Even though you were born a kittypet, from the moment I’ve become your trainer, I feel like you have always been Clanborn. You and Fireheart.” Willowpelt said, smiling.
“Aw, thanks Willowpelt.” Goldpaw said, smiling bigger. “That really means a lot to me!”
"Let's continue on lesson one." Willowpelt said. "take one of your paws and try to get a good scratch in."
"But I don't want to hurt you." Goldpaw said, looking sad.
"I'm a strong warrior, one scratch won't kill me." Willowpelt said.
Goldpaw raised her claw and gently scratched Willowpelt.
"Not bad." Willowpelt said, nodding. "but will you go easy on the enemy?"
"No." Goldpaw replied.
"Good" Willowpelt said. " When you are standing in front of your enemy, think about noting! Also, don't hurt your clanmates, they will help you get through. I think that's enough training, I'm getting hungry."
"You just read my mind!" Goldpaw said, laughing. "let's pick up some prey on the way for the fresh-kill pile!"
After Willowpelt and Goldpaw left Sandy Hollow and they each got a mouse, they returned to Thunderclan and threw the mouses on the fresh-kill pile.
