Chapter Five

Alina sat down in the classroom just before Mr Tame strode in. He looked round and glared at everyone with his mean brown eyes, then slammed the door behind him. The room was in silence as the students quaked in their seats.
"Take out your homework." Mr Tame growled threateningly at them.

Immediately there was a rustling of papers as the students reached for the stale fruits of their labour. All thoughts of Miles and his supposed "physics homework" were quickly expelled from Alina's brain as she panicked about the state of her work. Why had she been stupid enough to guess on the last few questions? She wondered. Suddenly, she remembered that she was meant to be at her music lesson and quivered with fear even more when she realised what she had to do. Slowly she raised her hand in the air.

"What is it?" snapped Mr Tame. Her voice shaking, she mumbled
"Sir... Please may I go to my music lesson?" Georgie, in the seat next to her stared at her, alarmed. Mr Tame walked up to Alina, and glared at her.

"Girl." he growled, in his best tiger voice. "Your damn music lessons always seem to fall on my maths lessons." His voice was rising alarmingly into a shout. "Well I don't care about your puny music lessons, you scrawny peasant." By now, he was screaming at her. "You're not trying to skive my lesson are you? Are you?" He repeated the final sentence for effect. Alina opened her mouth and shut it a few times, utterly terrified.

Suddenly, the door opened, and the deputy head raced in. "Can I borrow Alina?" she asked Mr Tame, speaking quickly. "It's urgent." Mr Tame gave Alina one last glare before allowing his prey to escape. "Fine." He growled, shaking his head as Alina followed the deputy head out the door.
