The Camping Trip

June 17th, 2020

Ah, summer the greatest season out of all seasons. With it's cool fresh water to dive in, gorgeous fireflies that come out at night, and best of all no school. Just relaxing all day inside being able to sleep in and do nothing; oh what a grand it is for me at least that's what I thought; the door opening to my bedroom swung open and here comes my dad seeming quite excited about something "Amber Pipkin, get up and get dressed  in some clean clothes" my father demanded. I lazily lift my head up off the pillow to look at him "But it's a Saturday? Why can't I sleep?" I groan annoyingly "Because today we're going camping. Now get out of bed, get dressed, and have all the stuff you need for the camping trip. It better all be done by the time I come back" he warns walking straight out of my room.
I growl face down on the pillow and slowly I lift my lazy body up into a stretch hearing the bones pop alive, I sit there for a short 5 minutes. Now, on days like this I wish my family didn't go camping. For instance, I hate camping out in strange places and unfamiliar woods makes me uncomfortable especially with all the bugs gross! My name (as you now know) is Amber Pipkin. I am a 15 year old girl who's hair is a orange curly mess, my eyes a plain green, freckles on my face, and suntan skin who hates waking up early on weekends especially during sumner vacation. I just wanna stay asleep for a long time but I can't so forcing myself onto my feet I tiredly stumble across my room to my dresser taking out some clean clothes such as a black top with the quotes: "You snooze, you lose" in bold pink and blue jean shorts with sparkles on the bottoms; I head to the bathroom to change and in the process fix my bed hair by braiding it perfectly. Later on, I head back out from the bathroom grabbing my green suitcase; I place the items I may need for this trip such as: a flashlight, toothbrush/floss/toothpaste, brush, food, water, clothing, phone, and binoculars placing them all in safe places but I move the binoculars, flashlight, and phone with me in my side bag.

Feeling prepared, I pick up my suitcase and carry it out into the living where my dad and mom sat packing up their suitcases; it took only 5 seconds for my dad to notice I was there "Ah, good job for packing your stuff. Did you make sure you had everything you needed?" He asked marking sure "Yes dad, I have everything I need. But why do we have to go camping every July during summer? Why can't I just stay home while you and mom go camping?" I complain asking more than one question seeing my father cross his arms "Now Amber, we've been over this. It's a family outing we do besides we-" my father was cut off by my mom "The reason you can't stay home alone is because we don't believe you could handle the responsibility" hearing her say that just made my mouth drop "But mom! I am responsible, don't you trust me to take care of myself? I'm freaking 15" I debate though my father debates back "Amber, listen to your mother. Even if your 15 you have not shown us at all that you are capable of taking care of yourself knowing the fact you slack off and we can't have that" "Dad, I just-" "I just nothing! Now keep quiet and get your stuff to the car. Your going camping whether you like it or not young lady" he snapped.
Anger boils inside of me, I grab my suitcase aggressively turning away from my dad straight out the door. I place my case in the back of the car and seatbelt myself in the car awaiting for my parents; I stare down at the floor angrily once they hopped in the vehicle; we drove away from the house leaving it behind us for only 3 whole days and nights I never thought this camping trip would probably be my last.
