Iris

Iris Barefoot down the rainbow she goes
Unto the lands of mortal men
Sprink'ling droplets on every rose
Unleashing the Winds to town town and glen

Driving the Sun, fair-haired Apollo
Lashing his golden steeds with whips
As she sees him, Iris follows
And puts a finger to his lips

The winds turn restless, growing fierce
Zeus suppliments a bolt or two
The rains in torrents rooftops pierce
Soaking lush green forests through

The rivers widen, rage and flood
Posiedon raises his mighty head
Iris, laughing, showers him in mud
Waters clear the riverbed

Nothing can stop the tempest now
Iris flees to Olympus, feeling dread
The ocean has cleared the sailboat's prow
Icy waves close over sailors' heads

The victims Hermes takes to Dis
Where Hades shall then judge their souls
Their families notice something's amiss
'Till bodies float to quiet shoals

The rain dies down, only a murmur
Those last drops spilled from Iris' train
She laughs lighthearted, but mortals shiver
Nothing will be the same again
