Chapter 9

Chapter 9 I looked at the girls. It was dark, but hey! Part wolf! They slowly but surely made their way to their sleeping bags. I smiled to Blake and stood up. I didn’t go back to my sleeping bag, but instead walked out into the courtyard, pulling out my scroll. I pulled up my contacts and clicked on one.
“You’re in?” he asked. I nodded.
“Yes, Adam,” I said. “I’m in.” I scoffed. “It wasn’t even that hard. Professor Ozpin looked right at me and said nothing.” Adam laughed.
“Well, that’ll make this go even easier, then.” He sighed. “Is she there?” I groaned and nodded.
“Yeah, she’s here.”
“Well?” I shook my head.
“She was suspicious, but she’s too trusting to be suspicious for long.” He nodded.
“What about you?” he asked. “Are you okay with her being there?” I scoffed.
“I won’t let her stop me from carrying this out. We have to-”
“Hello?” I heard someone say, with a strange accent. I quickly hung up on Adam, looking around. “Who are you?” Then I saw her. A lightly tanned girl with long, dark brown hair, the same colored eyes, and brown bunny ears.
“U-um . . .” I froze. “I’m one of the new students.” She smiled.
“You’re a faunus, like me.” I nodded. “My name’s Velvet Scarlatina.” I smiled meekly.
“Aria Layn,” I told her. She smiled at me.
“If you don’t mind my asking, what’re you doing out here?” I shrugged. “Homesick?” I shrugged again.
“Maybe,” I said. “More . . . people-sick, I guess.” Velvet nodded.
“Understandable.” She gestured for me to sit down. “Where are you from, Aria?” I chuckled lightly.
“Menagerie.” She nodded. “You?”
“Vale,” she said. “I trained at Pharos Academy, where I met my friend, and team leader, Cocoa Adel. Where did you train?” I laughed.
“Would you believe me if I said Menagerie?” She shrugged.
“I’ve never been there, but from what I’ve heard, it’s a pretty crazy place. I can imagine why you’d need to be able to fight there, what with the White Fang being there and everyone wanting to find them.” I nodded.
“Yeah, me and my brother got into fights all the time,” I said. “He didn’t want to be a huntsman, though. He just wanted to be left alone.”
“I mean, I get that. Fighting’s not for everyone. That’s why we’re here: to protect those who don’t want to, or can’t, fight.” I nodded. If only she knew.

I was one of the first people up, so I quickly got dressed and walked to the cafeteria for breakfast. There were only four other people, and, lucky me, I knew one of them.
“Hey, Ar!” she said when she saw me walk in. I walked over.
“Ar?” I asked. She nodded and looked at the other three people around her.
“Guys, this is Aria Layn,” she said. “She’s a new student this year.” A girl with dark brown hair with a red streak and opaque sunglasses looked at me.
“So you’re one of the newest victims,” she said. She lowered her sunglasses to reveal dark grey eyes, looking me up and down. “You don’t look very tough.” I shrunk under her scrutinizing gaze. Velvet facepalmed.
“Ar, this is my team, team CFVY.” I waved, sitting down next to Velvet. “They’re a little much, specifically Cocoa.” Said girl waved. “Then this is Yatsuhashi Daichi-” An extremely tall boy with chocolate brown skin, a black buzz cut, and black eyes. “-and Fox Alistair.” Fox was tall, but not as tall as Yatsuhashi. He had skin a little darker than Yatsuhashi’s, burnt red hair, and white eyes.
“What’s your semblance?” Cocoa asked. I looked at the table. Velvet placed a hand on my shoulder. I looked up at her, and she nodded. I let out a deep breath and turned. Next thing they knew, I was a big ball of grey fur.

Cocoa’s P.O.V.

OH GOSH! SHE JUST TURNED INTO A WOLF! I’m seriously trying not to freak out in front of my team. As Aria sat across from me, I noticed her eyes. I noticed them before, but they hadn’t changed. One was a stunning blue, and one was blood red. I nodded.
“Not bad, kid,” I said. “Aside from the eyes, you could disappear for days.” Her eyes glowed purple as she changed back into the ginger girl she was before.
“Yeah,” she said. “I can’t change into another person though. And my eyes are always the same. Kinda puts a dent in things.” I shrugged.
“Even with that setback,” I started, “you probably have the most useful semblance here.” I smirked as her cheeks flushed pink. “You’re cool. I guess you can hang with us.” Velvet leaned over to Aria.
“That’s big,” she whispered in her ear. “Cocoa never says anyone’s cool.” We laughed. Something told me there was more to Aria than met the eye.
