Chapter 4

~Adam’s P.O.V.~

A week later, we had both come up with ways to hide our scars from the other faunus. I took to wearing a mask, and Steel took to wearing high-collared armor. And after nine months, it was needless to say our hatred of the Schnee family and their company had only grown. I was currently on a mission with Blake to get rid of a train carrying dust from SDC. Steel was back in Menagerie preparing for a mission she would go on alone. I walked up behind Blake, perched on a rock.
“Blake,” I said. “It’s time.” She looked at me.
“Okay.” We slid down the snow-covered hill and onto the train, bursting through the hatch in the ceiling. Looking around, I saw a car full of AK-130 Androids.
“Looks like we’re going to be doing this the hard way,” I said to myself. The droids activated and circled us.
“Don’t be so dramatic,” Blake said. One android activated the guns on its arms.
“Intruder,” it said, “identify yourself.” I pulled out wilt and cut the droid in half before continuing to destroy the rest of the droids in the car. As we ran out onto a flatbed, more droids ran towards us.
“Let’s do this.” Once we were done with them, we ran into another car. I opened the lid to one of the trunks and smiled. “Perfect.” I looked at Blake. “Move up to the next car.” I closed the trunk. “I’ll set the charges.” Her eyes were wide.
“What about the crew members?” I shrugged.
“What about them?” I looked to my right and saw a spider droid climbing down from the ceiling. I stepped forward.
“Adam,” Blake said, anxiously. We fought the droid, but we didn’t leave a mark. I grabbed Blake’s arm and pulled her out of the way of one of the legs that was about to crush her. “We need to get out of here.” I nodded, and we ran onto another flatbed. I looked at Blake.
“Buy me some time,” I told her. She looked scared.
“Are you sure?”
“Do it!” She distracted the droid while I prepared my next move. When she jumped back to me later, I yelled, “Move!” She jumped backwards, and I caught the droid’s powerful beam with Wilt. My hands started to glow as the droid jumped forward. As it did, I sliced at it with Moonslice, and it was gone. I turned around to find Blake standing on the next car.
“Goodbye,” was all she said before she severed the cars and was gone.

~Steel’s P.O.V.~

As I was getting ready for my mission, my mother stormed into the room.
“Oh, hey, Mom!” I said with false cheer. “Good to see you too!” She didn’t smile.
“When were you going to tell me about this?” she asked. I shrugged. “Steel, you are my daughter.”
“Oh, really? I had no idea.”
“Steel Jay Blue!” I looked up at her. “I don’t want you to go on this mission.” I looked back at my bag and continued packing. “Steel, this is dangerous. More dangerous than the last one. If you get caught, you’ll be facing a lot worse than a scar.” I looked up at her, angry. I stood up.
“A scar?” I asked. “I’d say that was more than a scar, Mom.” She shook her head.
“That doesn’t change the fact that you’ll be facing worse if you don’t keep your cover.” I nodded.
“I know, but I need to do this. For the faunus.” She placed a hand on my shoulder. I looked at it and glared back up at her. She shook her head.
“Don’t give me that look, you! It might seem like I’m being overprotective, but I’m not.” She dropped her hand. “Steel, there are people out there who can and will hurt you, or worse, if they find out who you are. If your father-” She stopped as I gritted my teeth and narrowed my eyes at her.
“If he sees me, he won’t know it,” I said through barred teeth. “It’s not like he’s ever seen me before.” I kneeled back down to finish packing.
“That doesn’t change the fact that there aren’t many wolf faunus out there, Steel.” I slammed my luggage shut and stood up.
“I don’t care!” I yelled. “The humans have stolen everything from us! They deserve this, and if I can give it to them, I will have no complaints if something happens to me!” She sighed.
“You used to be a little girl who only cared about making sure you didn’t hurt anyone,” she said. “Whatever you may say, I believe that’s still you somewhere. But if you do this, there is no going back, Steel. You will be a wanted criminal in every kingdom.”
“Whatever I might say?” I asked. “How about this: I was a child when I didn’t care about the humans. That child is gone. The humans deserve to be punished. I would go to prison ten times over if I could give them what they deserve. And as for my father? He’s no better than the rest of them. I would be fine if he stayed out of the picture for the rest of my life. In fact, I’d prefer that. All humans are the same. They fight and oppress us, and then they blame us. Well not anymore.” I glared at her. “It’s time to turn the tables on whose tyrannized.” My mother stared at me with cold eyes before turning around and walking out of the room.
