The angel within
“Ahh!” I shouted and sat up. I looked around me and saw that I was in a bed. The room around me was white. I turned my vision towards the window and saw a guy standing there. He had short messy brown hair. He was quite built and tall. His eyes had a glimmer of desperation in them as he gazed into the beautiful sun set. I wonder what he was thinking about. He looked troubled in some way, but also like he was desperate for someone to talk to. I was about to call out to him when everything around me turned grey, black and white and everything stopped except me. A guy was sitting next to me on the bed. He was wearing a leather jacket, he had baggy pants on and was wearing black ripped fingerless gloves. His hair was black, messy and spikey and really thin. His eyes were red; that had a glimmer of hurt in them.“Who are you?” I asked and he got up.
“I’m Sen Karasumi.” He turned and saw my confused and scared expression. “I’m sorry that you had to endure that torcher.” He clenched his fists.
“That was just a dream? Right? I don’t really have to slaughter that thing, do I?”
“How did you come up with that accusation?” He stared into the sunset. I started to brush my incredibly knotty layered jet black hair.
“So it is just a dream?” He turned around and saw my expression; relieved and hopeful. He clenched his fists once more.
“Not necessarily.”
“What do you mean Sen?”
“You’re dream, was a vision. Can’t you remember what happened to your kingdom not long ago?”
“Yes I do; the war between Albion and those demons, and my mother’s death.”
“That demon that you tried to kill in your dream is called Freiza; Freiza is a demon that all those other small demons worship. I don’t need to describe her because you encountered her already. The other small demons are called Carimejasu. They plan to summon Freiza to take over Albion. And it’s not that far from now.”
“I thought they came for my mother! She was a half demon! That’s why when they took her they left!” I shouted.
“Calm Down! I can’t concentrate with all that screaming!” He shouted.
“Sorry, but none of this makes any sense. Why would they come back here?”
“There’s something your father isn’t telling you Yumishiro.” He said.
“What is it?”
“Your father is a half-demon, like your mother was.”
“What?! But why go through all that trouble just to get my dad?”
“The Carimejasu feel that your father’s army is too strong for them to face alone, so they want help from Freiza, that way she can create more demons for their army.”
“How is that even possible?”
“She sends some of her demons to capture living humans and bring them back to her, so that she can turn them into demons too.”
“That’s horrible, what should we do?”
“I don’t know that yet.” He said and came over to me. “But don’t worry, my purpose here is to protect you; you alone. I’m here to help whenever you need it. I have to go. Be careful out there okay.” He smiled at me one last time and disappeared. Everything was its normal colour again. I looked towards the window; and the guy was gone… not a trace of him was left… someone knocked on the door.
“Come in.” I said and the door opened.
“Hello your majesty, how are feeling this fine morning?” The guy said.
“Oh, I’m fine Kiaen, thanks for asking, how are you?” I asked politely. Kiaen was my 20 year old adviser; he took care of most of my things, and made my work as easy as possible for me. Most importantly; he was my best friend. We’ve been together since we were four. I can’t imagine how I would survive without Kiaen. My father made him my personal adviser so that we could be together whenever I have assignments.
“I’m doing great your majesty; I have some important news for you.”
“Yes Kiaen?”
“Firstly, your father is waiting in the throne room to make a special announcement in your honour, secondly, your brother, Miryoku-Tekina, is waiting to hear how you are doing, and lastly, Zeal is waiting for you in the garden, he has some important news of his own for you.” Kiaen said as he brought my best clothes in through the closet.
“Wow! My day sounds fascinating!” I asked as I got out of bed.
“I think you should try something elegant, since you are meeting with your father and his subjects.” He said.
“I think so too!” I said and went into the bathroom to change. I came out and dumped my sleepwear on the bed. “Oh and Kiaen, you don’t have to be so formal, I’m your best friend remember?”
“Sure, okay Yumishiro.” He said and opened the door for me. “I’d recommend that you go and see Zeal first and then your brother. Your father’s busy now so you can meet him in the throne room in about two hours’ time.”
“Thanks Kiaen.” I said.
“It’s my pleasure Yumishiro, enjoy your day.” He said cheerfully.
“You too Kiaen.” I said and left towards the garden.
When I got there, Zeal was waiting with two of his men. Zeal was one of my good friends who was in my father’s army. He had Silver spikey hair, turquoise eyes and fair skin complexion, he was tall and built and had a snake tattoo across his arm. “Zeal!” I called.
“Yumishiro!” He said and hugged me. “I’m so relieved that you are feeling much better! Hey, your bandages are all gone! That’s wonderful!” He smiled.
“It is a miracle.” I said and smiled back.
“I’m just glad you’re alright.”
“Excuse me for intruding captain, but, um, can we get back to telling her majesty why we’re here?” One of his soldiers asked.
“It’s alright Trishimori, now what did you wanna say?” I asked.
“We came to report on our mission your majesty.”
“What is with you people? Stop being so formal with me! I have a name, use it, that’s what it’s for is it not?”
“I mean Yumishiro.” He bowed.
“You don’t need to bow down to me either.” I said and they got up. “Now report Trishimori and Carine.”
“Well, there seem to be no sign of any demons in the forest; we travelled for a week and nothing happened.”
“Yumishiro, there is no sign of demon activity, so that means that they must’ve migrated to another location.” Carine said.
“What an astounding observation! You guys did a great job! Wonderful! What say we go spend the night in the forest? Just the nine of us? It would be marvellous to catch up on things!”
“Seriously?” They looked at me hopefully.
“Why not? Now that the demons are gone, we’re safe. It’ll be you guys, Mori, Chad, Tyler, Aaron, Miryoku and Kiaen. What do you say?”
“Of course we’ll come Yumishiro! It sounds fun!”
“Great! Now I have to get going, I have to meet with my brother. How about we meet at eight? Does that sound about fine?”
“Sure, see you later Yumishiro!” They said and left.
“See you later my darling.” Zeal said and waved as he walked off. I headed towards the castle to find my brother. It wasn’t much of a surprise to find him in his room. Others may have headed to the cafeteria first because that’s where they think he spends most of his time. But they are quite wrong.
“Miryoku, can I come in?” I asked politely. He turned around in surprise and nearly jumped off his bed.
“Yumishiro! You’re all better! I see your wounds have healed quite quickly! That’s fantastic!” He said and smiled cheerfully. “Come sit down, please.” He said and sat up properly.
“Alright but I can’t stay for long, I have to go meet Kiaen as soon as we’re done talking, okay?” I asked.
“Sure, no problem! As long as I get to talk to you, I can’t tell you how worried I’ve been!” Miryoku said and held my hand. “I was afraid I’d lose you…” A tear fell from his face.
“Don’t cry Miryoku, it’s not like you, please, I’m fine now, see, there’s nothing to worry about.” I said reassuringly.
Kiaen walked towards the library, he didn’t know why, but he just felt like browsing for a bit. He didn’t even know what he was looking for, but he decided to go with whatever he was feeling. Once he got inside he went up the stairs and into the fifth row of bookshelves. He looked through all of them, but nothing seemed to interest him. He wondered why he was there if he didn’t even want anything from the library, but again, he just went with whatever his gut told him. He searched and searched until he came to the end of the row. “I guess this was all just a waste of my precious time.” He mumbled to himself. He bent down to check the bottom shelf and saw a book underneath it. “What the…” He asked as he reached in to grab it. “Now what’s this?” He blew off the dust which relieved the title. “No way… It can’t be… She couldn’t have… I have to tell Yumishiro.” He whispered to himself and ran out the library in search for his best friend.
“It was nice talking to you my dear sister.” Miryoku said as I left the room.
“I’ll see you at eight okay?”
“Yep! Bye for now!” He waved and I closed his room door. We had a nice conversation; it was wonderful to hear the sound of my brother’s voice once more. It had been a while. I had to find Kiaen however, so we couldn’t chat for very long. I ran down the hall way, lost in thought, and bumped into someone… Well, that’s what I thought anyway. When I opened my eyes, I was standing in front of Kiaen, like nothing ever happened. It was strange because I was so sure that I bumped into him just a second ago.
“But…. This doesn’t make any sense… Didn’t I just…” Kiaen mumbled to himself.
“Kiaen, are you okay?” I asked. He looked up at me with a confused expression.
“Yumishiro, didn’t I just bump into you? Why are we standing directly in front of each other if I did?” He rubbed his head.
“I was just thinking the same thing… That was strange…” I said and put my hand on his shoulder. “But the good news is that I found you! I’ve got something important to share with you Kiaen, could you follow me to my room?” I asked with a smile.
“Of course, I’ve got something to tell you too!” Kiaen smiled and we walked towards my room. I opened the door and went to go sit on my bed. Kiaen closed the door and went over to the bed to sit next to me. “So, would you like to start?”
“No, you can go ahead Kiaen.”
“Are you sure? I mean you said yours was pretty important too.”
“No, I can wait, carry on.”
“Okay then…” He said and handed me a book.
“What? W-Where did you find this K-Kiaen?” I asked as a tear fell from my face.
“Underneath a bookshelf in the library. I thought that you should be the first to know about it.” He said and heard me cry softly to myself. “Wow! Yumishiro what’s wrong? Why are you crying?” He asked and panicked. I looked up and Kiaen was frozen, and everything looked black, grey and white; just like before.
“Sen? Is that you?” I asked and I saw him sitting on the windowsill.
“Yes, now please, stop crying. It hurts.” Sen said and walked over to me.
“I’m sorry Sen, but my mother wrote this book on half-demons. I don’t think it was a coincidence that Kiaen found this and decided to give it to me.”
“You are right. I’ll share a little secret with you.”
“Yes, what?”
“I am an angel, and I’m here as your personal guardian. Your friend Kiaen over there, he has a guardian too.” Sen said and put his hand on Kiaen’s shoulder.
“Really? That’s so cool.”
“Yeah, he’s name is Kokora no Kina. It means Mind Controller.”
“That’s really cool! So it’s like his special ability or something?”
“You’re absolutely right.”
“What’s yours?”
“Come on, it should be pretty obvious… Look around.” I looked around me and observed the area. I couldn’t believe how stupid I was.
“You can stop time?”
“Not only stop time, but control it too. I have to go. Make sure your friend finds out about his guardian, we need all the help we can get to stop the demons.”
“I’ll do that right away Sen, you can count on me.”
“I never doubted you in the first place.” He said and disappeared. Everything went back to its usual state.
