Moving Into A New Neighborhood
The sound of an alarm clock woke me up and a beam of light hit my face."C'mon you dork, time for you to get up- after all, our mom would've KILLED me if we didn't stick to our routine..."
That's right- our parents died in a car crash 2 days ago. Only me and my brother Eric are left. Luckily, Eric has a job so technically, he can raise me, but he just enrolled to college so our schedules are tight. We only just figured out that our parents left us a house in this neighborhood so decided to move.
"Heey!! Earth to Eugene, here!"
I finally opened eyes, slowly getting up from my bed.
"Yeah, yeah...I'm up. No need to get your boxers in a twist..."
"You know the drill- after I make your lazy butt some pancakes, I have to get to college."
"They have college on Saturdays...?"
"That's the wonder of colleges, now I have to go. The pancakes are on the dining table, if you even know where THAT is, since I just finished unpacking. Bye."
With that, he left my room. And a while after, I heard the door close. Well, I got the whole house to myself, that's a relief. I layed back down on the bed again but then realized I'm already too awake to sleep again so I wobbled to the hallway. It took me a while, since the house's layout is really unfamiliar to me, but I finally found the kitchen and then the dining room. Ah, Eric's crappy pancakes. I have nothing else to eat, so I might as well...
Soon after I finished eating, I went to explore the rooms, after all, I don't have anything else to do. This house is pretty huge, I guess. Right after I stepped out of the living room, I heard footsteps. Eric couldn't have come back, it's REALLY too early for college to end. I looked around me and found a small pot beside me. Well, beggars can't be choosers. I took it and approached where the footsteps were coming from, keeping my guard up. Suddenly, the footsteps stopped. I jumped inside the room where the footsteps were coming from but found no one there. I inspected the room, holding the pot as if it was a baseball bat. Weird...I was sure I heard footsteps...All I found inside the room was a purple flag with a yellow star in the middle. How did that get in here? It must've been one of the things the old residents left behind. After inspecting the flag, I realized that there was a key underneath it. The key was particularly unusual, though. It was black, completely made from stone, and the end of the key was a book. Across from it was a small door, small enough for me to fit at least. It was covered by the wallpaper, so I used the key to cut open the edges of the door and then inserted the key into the door. I opened the door and went inside.
And inside was a palace.
