Surprise Cora!!!

Josh's POV

It was the 22nd of July or something like that. About a month after the kid was killed. All I knew was today was a special day to someone. I was sat in a tree with Cora, we were looking out over the city. We were talking about the people who attacked us. "Yeah whoever they were I would like to give them a piece of my mind" She seemed confident at least but something was getting at her I could tell she seemed down. I know what it is but Just in case "Hey Cora you OK?" she looked at me as if I had done something wrong. Had I? She sighed and looked down again.
"I'm just a bit down" She said to me still looking down. I was stalling a bit I admit but small talk wasn't my thing.
"Oh sorry anything I can help with?" I asked her but she gave her head a shake. It was silent from then on for a while.
I let off and sigh while taking my bag off my back. I unzipped it and reached for a small blue box inside it, I took it out and held it in both hands looking at.
"What's that?" Cora looked over and asked me looking at the box.
"It's um" I paused and passed it over to her "It's yours. Happy birthday Cora" I said with a smile. She took the box and put it on the branch. She looked right into my eyes for a second. "Sorry di-" I was interrupted by a tight hug from her.
"I can't believe you remembered" She said almost sounding like she was tearing up. I wasn't expecting this but I returned the hug without words. She let go after a little while and picked the box back up. She took the top off and was shocked at what she saw. It wasn't much but it was a small pearl bracelet. She took it out and held it in both hands "How did you get this?" she was nearly tearing up again.
"I-it was my sisters before she" I stopped myself there "But it was her's and I don't have any use for it so I thought you may like it" I was embarrassed I won't lie I was. But it was good to see Cora with such a smile on her face.  She put the bracelet on and looked at me again "Th-thank you Josh. Really" I was surprised she liked it that much but I guess giving the current things going on, well she's not a high hoping girl so it's cool. We sat there for a while with silence. We kept trading looks and we didn't want to ruin the moment or at least I didn't.
Cora sat up and lent against the tree and smiled at me "Josh Don't change how you are" I was slightly surprised and yet flattered.
"I won't promise you" I looked over at her "Hey we should go before the guys think we have been killed" she nodded and we slid off the branch. We didn't didn't run along the trees or run at all we just walked all the way back. It was safe it seemed so we just walked still trading looks.

We finally got to the camp again. John was waiting with his death stare. Is that like one of his two face expressions I swear. "Were have you two been?" He nodded at me and I grabbed a small bag off the gate. I looked at Chelsea who was next to me while Cora was making up a story. Oh this is going to be funny. I nodded at Chelsea and put the bag over Cora's head. She started to move around and Chelsea tackled her and started to take her to the table. I looked over at the kitten and whistled and Kate came out with a cake and made her way over. Chelsea sat Cora down who was going on like "What are you guys doing?! Get this thing off me!". The cake was put in front of her and I took the bag off her head. As I did myself, John, Kate, Chelsea, Charlie and Tristan all yelled "Happy birthday!" as we did Cora looked down to see a cake with her name on it with only 3 candles in it. Hey what could I do? But her face went from really mad to surprised and happy. Me and Kate were still laughing so much. John then told Cora to blow out the candles and me and Kate looked at her. Cora did do this with out a pause. And we all cheered. Cora looked like we just gave her some sort of wish she was beaming it was so funny! It just goes to show even when bad things happen. You can still do whatever. The rest of the day was filled with pictures captured on a camera we found and laughter. It was a day to remember!
