Eggs-benedict
Julie's head ached as she opened her eyes. The flashing light on the ceiling and the vibrations coming from below were unrecognizable, setting Julie's mind to wonder where she was. She slowly stood, gripping an unsteady bar to support her. Every inch of her body was hurting, as if she had been beaten. The first thing she noticed was that her clothes had changed from a normal T-shirt and jeans to a light blue uniform and tight jeans. There was a nametag on the left side of her uniform, that said, 'julie young'. Her hair was still in a loose ponytail, but was tangled and rough. Julie looked around, wondering where she was and how she had gotten there. She saw bruises and cuts all over her arms and the parts of her legs that were visible."Welcome to the first day of your exciting new career." Julie jumped at the sudden automated voice from below her. She looked down and saw a yellow device with a face. It had a covered up nametag that the only letters visible were S and T, but it was covered by a shorter nametag that said, 'young'. She picked it up and stared at it. "Whether you were approached at a job fair, read our ad in screws, bolts, and air pits, or if this is the result of a dare, we welcome you. I will be your personal guide to help you get started. Im a model 5 of the handyman's robotics and unit repair system." 'get started with what?' julie thought. "But you can call me hand unit. Your new career promises challenge, intrigue, and endless janitorial opportunities." "Oh, great." Mumbled julie, wanting to get out of this. "Please enter your name as seen above the keypad. This cannot be changed later, so please be careful." A keyboard appeared on the screen, glitching around and moving. "How am I supposed to type on this?" Wondered julie aloud. She waited for the J to appear on-screen, bracing her finger above the screen. The J moved across, and she hit it. A dot came onto the screen. She did the same with the U, then the L, but on the I, she accidentally tapped the K. "Dang it." Whispered julie softly. "It seems you had some trouble with the keypad. I see what you were trying to type, and I will auto-correct it for you. One moment..." julie waited for about five seconds before the voice spoke again. "Welcome, eggs-benedict." "Eggs-benedict?! What?! Since when does eggs-benedict start with a J, U, and L?!" Julie was frustrated with the device, and almost threw it across the room.
A loud alarm sounded, and the room went dark, except for one bright red button. The vibrations stopped, and julie nearly fell over. "You can now open the elevator using that bright, red, and obvious button." Said hand unit. "Let's get to work." Julie stepped forward and pushed the button. The elevator opened with a loud clang, and she saw a dark, small vent with damaged tape all over it. "Uhh... I'm not sure if I'm willing to go in there." She said, speaking to no one in particular. Julie sighed and got down on her knees and crawled into the vent, barely fitting. She crawled along, wondering what awaited her.
