Can you teach an old dog new tricks?

Roo was my dog six years ago who had one dream.
Roo had been born in a circus but thrown out for being a mutt.
All he wanted to do was play and be loved then.
So we adopted him because we had a big yard and loved animals lots.
At that time we had 3 cats (Ginger, Matty and Coco) and a lizard called Pete.
We only just had room for a dog.
Well Roo loved romping around until he turned 11 when he started to stay indoors.
He only ate the green bits of his dog food and refused to eat treats and stayed cuddled with his blanket.
One day he got up and started to stagger he frustratedly rolled over but could not go properly.
He made himself become fit again and started to do the agility coarse in the horse paddock about a mile away.
He could not jump over the hurdles and was too big for tunnels.
Roo ended up in a retired dog home when he started to lie down again.
He felt useless and broken.
But after a month there he found a way out of the garden and came back to our house.
In our arms he was more of a dog.
Loyal.
That is the answer.
