“Child?”Our heads snap upwards to the source of the voice. It was a tall goat monster. A monster that was all too dear to me. Someone who treated me better than my own parents did. I almost did a double take at the sight of her. Flowey on the other hand seemed conflicted on whether if he should stay in full view or retreat into the soil. Her eyes shifted between the two as if trying to register what she was seeing. Finally, she spoke again.
“Asriel? How long has it been my child?”
This stunned me for a moment. How did she not recognize me? She was the one who basically raised me for five years and schooled me and tucked me in at night. Yet, she seemed like she was seeing me for the first time. Flowey looked to me as if asking what to do now.
I stood, dusting myself off. Toriel spoke again. “Young one, what is your name?”
“Chara.” I simply put it. She ought to know, shouldn’t she? Toriel looked down at Flowey, who clung to my leg and didn’t seem to want to let go anytime soon.
“I see you two have already bonded, Chara. Come small one, I’m sure you are quite confused now. Let me explain as we explore the catacombs.”
She reached for my hand; I lace our hands together without a second thought. The warmth radiating from her furred hand calmed me immediately. So, what? She doesn’t remember. Things can still go back to the way they were before I…
Before?
What did I do…oh? That’s why. No time to dwell on that, it’s time to go home. Boy, it’s been so long. It felt strange even thinking about the word ‘home’. Toriel talked about the puzzles and levers and how to go about them; seeing all the froggits idly sitting by as we pass reminded me of how small the Ruins was. Flowey kept close by; popping out of the ground a short distance away and then traveling again after we passed him.
