Chapter 14
Kai saw it a soon as it happened. Rages throwing knife was hurtling through the air at Iobar, spinning towards its target, the old man’s heart. Iobar was frozen in place until the very last moment, when he shot his hand out and deflected the blade back at gluttony, burying it in his stomach. That, of course, did not kill the fat cook. He just became, what the regular, blue collar worker would call: “Really, really, really pissed off.” The aproned monster quickly decided to vent his anger by performing an insane feat of strength and will, picking up a brick from the ground, and biting into it. After he had finished chewing, he then continued to spit out the shards of red stone from his mouth, all around the room. Killian was reminded of the manticore, and tried his best to get out of the way of the bombardement. Just then, he was reminded that he had an extremely deadly weapon in his pocket. He pulled out the Iron Flame, and pushed the button.
The fat man’s fat caught like dry grass, his flaming body only serving only to spread the flame further. He fell down and died after a minute. His companions hurried out of the room, along with Kai, Iobar, and the twins. All but poor sloth. Too lazy to move, he only looked with widened eyes to Rage, for aid.
Help.
Kai heard the voice in his head, before the man was engulfed in flame. He must have been their telepathic help, he thought. I was wondering.
They were out on the street, the two groups facing each other. Kai held his Kopis in his right hand, while a crystal orb had appeared in Iobar’s left, with a wand in the other. Pride was cracking his knuckles, preparing to attack. Throwing back his elbow, he ran at Iobar, aiming a punch. Iobar’s crystal ball was beginning to glow, picking up light and humming ominously. When it was filled with blue light a few moments later, it shot a bolt of lightning to the wand. The willow stick rebounded the bolt at Pride, with several times the force, knocking the body builder onto his back.
Eaden was the first to move. He flew to the giant, and began to spin around his head. He started to pick up speed, and turned into a halo circling in front of the man's eyes. Pride did not get up.
The next Sin was Envy. She moved quickly, but not quickly enough. Aeden somehow found enough courage inside of him to shoot a small fireball at her skull. It knocked her backwards, directly on to the fire staff Greed had just pulled out of his coat, and was lighting. They both fell backwards, but only Al got up, apparently immune to fire.
“Here goes.” he said, smiling.
He took the long torch in both hands, and charged at Kai. He swung the staff at his left side, but it was parried by a burst of flame. He struck again and again, closing in slowly on the Aeturnus. Kai was panicking. Iobar was busy with Rage, and the twins were useless against the firedancer.
Eaden suddenly appeared in front of Greed’s face, trying to do the same thing he did to Pride. Al could fight it off, but he was distracted, even more so when Aeden joined in. The Sin started swatting at where he thought the wisps were, but to no avail. He was spinning around in circles now, covering his head.
Killian came up from behind him, and stabbed him in the back.
When he looked over, he saw Lust was already dead, his body singed and lying on the ground.
Rage looked over, to see the last of his companions die, which granted him a staff across the face.
“Gahh!” he screamed, “Do you have any idea how long it took to gather seven Sins?” he pulled out a knife from his suit, and threw it. Killian had seconds to react, but he was nothing if not instinctive. He took the Iron Flame from the leather sheath Iobar had given him, and pressed the button. He saw the outline of Rage’s body inside of the flames, as he was consumed. The knife was not as unfortunate.
It struck Kai square in the chest, throwing him backwards into a side alley.
"Kai!" yelled Aeden, flying towards where the boy had fallen. He, Iobar, and his twin ran into the alley, worrying.
He wasn't there.
All there that was there, was an emerald hat.
