The Future....?
Molly was home alone and fearful, yet again. Her daughter knew the secret. The secret she tried so hard to keep from her. Although, her daughter could walk in the sun, and be almost human, she could not. Molly Joe was a full-blooded vampire, but it didn't fully awaken until she was twenty five years old. She was unprepared but her daughter would not be. She’d make sure off it.
Avalon was exhausted by the time she came home into the dark. She quickly finished her homework and went to sleep. She awoke to a sound. A banging in the creep of the night haunted her. Avalon’s ears picked up her mother’s voice with someone else she didn't know. She got up and decided to be brave.
Molly Joe had not been expecting her daughter to get up, but she did. When Avalon’s bat slippers appeared on the end of the steps, she knew. Avalon was wide-eyed and bearing fangs.
He had not been expecting his betrothed to come down the steps. Not at all. ‘Although she does look cute’, he thought. He had been reminding Molly Joe of her purpose, to make sure Avalon was ready by her sixteenth birthday. He wanted her to be ready for him, to be strong and glorious. Avalon only had a year and a half left. Avalon didn't know about the agreement her mother and his father had. She didn't know and didn't have a clue.
He waltzed over to her and smiled, showing off his enormous fangs that we slightly red from a recent feeding. He took her hand and lifted it to his mouth and gently, while looking straight at her, kissed it. Taking a bit of a taste of his betrothed. Avalon shivered but didn’t show any fear whatsoever. He knew in that moment that she would make an excellent bride and wife.
Avalon quickly glanced over at her mother to try to figure out what in the world was going on. Her mother just looked like all the hope and joy had been sucked out of her. Avalon backed away from the strange man, whom dared to touch her. She bared her growing fangs at him and asked in a completely calm voice,
“Who are you?” “I am your future and your betrothed.” He said, but he soon added, “My name is Devon.”
Avalon glanced at her mother, who was nodding. ‘It was true…?’ Avalon thought. She couldn't believe it. How could this have happened to her?!
Devon looked at her, wondering what must be going on in that beautiful head of hers. Like her, he still hadn't accepted it, he was just seventeen. A year older than her, that way he would be eighteen when they married, and would inherit the family estate. Avalon looked him up and down, trying to figure out if this was a prank or not. It wasn't.
Molly Joe had slipped out of the room, and was trying to figure out a way to stop the waterfall from falling down her cheeks. Molly Joe was uncertain on how to tell her daughter what exactly was going on and what was going to happen. Molly Joe wasn't sure on how to prepare her young daughter. Completely unsure.
