The Boy
Jo and I walk into the canteen together. All of my friends are sitting at a table. Lucy waves to me. She seems more open now, after the argument with Alena. What makes all of these guys really good friends is that they didn't even ask why Alena hated me all of a sudden."Hey guys, was'sup?"
"Nothing much!" Sam replies, biting into a sandwich. "Except we have training again today."
I groan. "Awww!!!"
"Yeah, I know right?"
"I'm gonna go get some lunch."
I pick up my lunch tray and take it over to the food. I walk to the person serving it out, and I begin to say what I want, when suddenly I look in their face and freeze.
There is a boy with orangey-blonde hair and light brown eyes at the counter.
"Yes?" he asks, "You were saying?"
"Oh, um, can I have, uhhhh...." I fumble over my words, but FINALLY I manage to say it. He scoops the glop onto a plate and hands it to me.
"Next!"
I hurry back to our table.
"Hey, look who's back! It's the loooovvveeeebiiiirrrrddd!!!" Rob, the Erudite boy, jokes.
"Hey, stop it!" I reply, blushing.
"Oh come on, Nera, admit it! We saw how you were acting back there!" Lucy laughs.
"What's that guys name?" I say, trying to turn the conversation in a different direction.
"Oh, he's Nathan." Jo says casually. "Former Abnegation boy, moved to Amity."
"Cool!" I exclaim, a bit over-enthusiastic because of my embarrassment. Sam giggles, says something else and the conversation is changed, much to my relief.
"Okay, Lunch is over!" A woman shouts from the end of the corridor. We walk back together, Sam and Rob talking about knowledge, Jo and Lucy laughing and joking, and me thinking about Nathan.
