The Arena Part Three

"Oh, no" I groaned, turning toward Tristan, "Did you get the supplies from when we dropped the berries on that group of tributes?"

"I thought that you got them!" He responded.

"We have to go get them." I said to him.

We walked through the forest for a little while casting wary glances at each bush in case another tribute happened to come out and attack us. I laced my fingers through Tristan's fingers. For the viewers of course! Yeah, the viewers...

Once we came across the spot we had been at yesterday, Tristan pushed me back.
"Another tribute." He whispered.

I nodded in understanding, then slowly tip-toed over and saw a girl with light green hair stuffing supplies into her bag and grinning at her huge new stock of weapons and food.

I threw a knife at her, and she dropped dead.
As the cannon went off I felt a stab of guilt. I was a killer. I sank to the ground and shed silent tears. I could feel Tristan was staring at me from a few yards away, probably deciding whether to comfort me or just let me cry.

"You can come." I said in a barely audible whisper.
"Why are you crying Dawn?" He said, as he came with a concerned look on his face. He was looked cute when he looked concerned, but that was REALLY off topic.

"It's just, it's not right!" I pouted "We're killing innocent people! We don't know if that girl was someone's best friend, daughter, grand daughter, sister..." I trailed off.

"I know, but it will all be over soon." Tristan said and pulled me close. I felt safe in his arms, although we were literally in a death house.

"Let's get the supplies." Tristan said standing up and brushed himself up. He offered his hand to help me up and I took it, then began to fill the bag I'd brought with food and weapons.

Once we'd finished I swung my bag over my shoulder and I took his hand in mine as we walked back to our cave.

That night when I went to sleep I held Tristan's hand.
I'll allow myself to admit, it wasn't just for the viewers.
