Me, Asher, Joey, and Amber used to all be best friends. In 5th grade we were hanging out at an abandoned house. Joey wanted to play truth or dare. A couple rounds in someone dared Amber to go in the basement. She didnt come out. Soon we heard screams and thuds coming from down the stairs. Joey ran down after her. After about a minute there was no sound. I walked towards the darkness of the stairs. Asher grabbed my arm. "Don't go" he pleaded. "they are our best friends. I have to go" We tied a rope around my waist and i went down the stairs. There was no light. A tight sweaty hand grabbed my wrist. It was Amber.
"Skylar? Help me!"
"COme on up the stairs. Come on lets go." We took two steps back up the stairs. Suddenly, Amber was yanked backwards. I grabbed her hand just in time.
"They have me! Skylar! Help!"
Her hand slipped away. I took off away from the steps. Away from Asher. Away from safety. Into the dark. I could hear amber and joey. "im coming for you amber! I'll find you!"
I was still running. I felt a tug at my waist. The rope ran out of slack. I was being dragged backwards. "No Amber wait i'll find you! I promise." I was crying and being pulled backwards and yelling promises to Joey and AMber wherever they were. Something grabbed my ankle. I was being pulled both ways. I kicked whatever was grabbing my ankle and ran towards the stairs. I made it up and ran into Asher. He held me tight and we ran out.

"Skylar?"
i was snapped back to the present. Its been two years. Ash was looking at me with concerned eyes. He really was cute. Asher pulled me close to him and held me for a minute.
"Where is she?" i asked finally being able to speak.
"Shes staying at Sams house tonight. We cant see her till tomorrow."
Sams house is a old run down house where teens hang out. Anybody can stay there as long as they want. I used to go there all the time. I kissed Asher on the cheek and left. i didnt get any sleep that night, but i didnt know that was my last chance for some rest.
