Initiation
The next week consisted of random drills where people would surprise us with questions and we would have to answer thoroughly and honestly. It seemed that along with honesty, quickness was vital. I, being from Dauntless, had this capability. Unfortunately, not everyone did. The Erudite boy whose name was apparently Harry. No one had been cut as they promised but half the group was already through initiation but had been given a job equivalent to janitors. Harry was still with us, Lillith, and Cal too. I was apparently the top of the class which surprised me immensely. Mr. Kang spoke to me often and it seemed Miss Bethany was warming up to us. Lilli, Cal, and I had grown closer and closer and we loved talking about our past lives--- it's funny we called them our past lives as if we had died and been reborn but in a way, that is what happens. We are taken away from everything we love and everything that's happened before is obliterated; isn't that what death is? But anyways, our final test was coming up and everyone was nervous. Our deepest darkest secret and most private fear would soon come to the light. It made such painful sense that it hurt your head to think about it."Hey, Vera?" Lilli said breaking me out of my deep thought.
"Uh, yea, Lilli. What's up?" I said rolling off the side of my bed.
"You know how next week we have to tell EVERYTHING?"
"Yea." I said smiling gently as I realized everyone was thinking about the exact same thing.
"Well, I'm worried about mine..."
"You can't be punished for it. Remember, on initiation day nothing can happen to you no matter the confession." I said rubbing her arms.
"Well... Could you listen? And not judge?"
"Of course." I said slowly, nervous about what I might here.
"Well, I, uh..." She threw her hands up in the air and screamed "I was kidnapped by the Dauntless and abused for 14 years until a girl named Marlene found me and snuck me out to Amity. There they cared for me and got me all caught up."
My eyes were wide. "Uh... Well, you shouldn't be too worried about it. It's not your fault."
"That's not it!" She said cutting me off. "While, I was there I injured people in self-defense and one boy who was not even abusing me, just standing watch, I paralyzed!" She started to sob and I just stared blankly at her. For once, no words came to my head I just stared and stared and eventually she screamed through her sobs "What?! Stop staring at me!" But I was incapable to do so...

If I was her, I too would be scared about confessing to that!
