The Hunger Games- Prim's version- Chapter 1

The Reaping

"Welcome, welcome." cheers Effie Trinket with her bright colored hair. "Happy Hunger Games and may the odds be ever in your favor. Now the time has come for us to select one courageous young man and women, for the honor of representing District 12 in the 74th Hunger Game. As usual, ladies first." Effie walks over to the reaping ball filled with girls names and carefully picks out a name. I can't stop thinking that my name is on that piece of paper. "Here we are." Effie opens that paper and reads out a name. "Primrose Everdeen."
A hush went over the Justice Building and it was silent. The only thing that I could hear was the beating of my heart. The people around me were looking at me in grief.
I walk slowly to the stage where Effie is standing. If only I could grow big white wings and fly away. Effie takes my hand and yells into the microphone. "Our female tribute! And now for the boys!" She walks over to the other reaping ball with all the boys names. She picks one and calls out, "Peeta Mellark!"
Peeta walks over slowly and up the stage. "Here we are! Our tributes from District 12! Well go on you to shake hands." I stare into his eyes and see the darknees and sadness he feels.
I look over to my sister Katniss and she's crying. I try not to embarrass myself on stage. Then Effie takes us inside the building and into a room each.
15 minutes later, Katniss and mom walk in, in tears.
