Chapter 1

"Hey, Ferone!" A squeaky voice snapped Ferone out of his dreams.

"What..." He replied weakly, he looked at the figure in front of him, he let out a sigh of relief as he noticed it was Marigold, who was the only dog not to be intimidated by his surprisingly large size for a growing pup.

"I brought breakfast!' Marigold yelped eagerly, shoving brown pellets at him.

He felt a sudden surge of disgust, that he refused to eat. Marigold seemed slightly hurt at his refusal but instead gave him a gentle smile. "I've been worried about you, for the past few sunrises you've been insisting on eating mice or voles- but you barely caught any and you're so thin," She informed him.

"I'm sure I'll catch one." Ferone insisted. "Why can't we explore?"

Marigolds eyes glittered with thought. "I'm not sure, my owners would worry about me," She murmured quietly.

"Owners! Humans!" Ferone growled. "Why would you like them when they trap you inside half of the time?!"

"But without them, I'd be dead," Marigold whispered gravely. "My bones and body aren't as sleek and strong as yours." Ferone silenced himself and sighed.

"Wait, Ferone. I'll come." Marigold swiftly reassured him before he turned away on his own. "Just don't get yourself hurt."
