Chapter 15

Apprehension. That was what Ferone felt as he walked up to his own alpha, even with the presence of Rift - he still felt fear.

"Ferone, I'll take the cobwebs to Oryan." Rift informed him, Ferone blinked - he felt slightly betrayed, but he knew that Rift was only completing the task she originally accompanied him for.

"O-okay." Ferone barked briskly, forcing back a whine. Rift cast him a reassuring glance, which only helped calm Ferone a little.

He could feel Alpha's gaze boring into him as if the larger wolf was judging his every movement. But Ferone could sense something else, an aroma of unease and fear; anxiety. As soon as Ferone had scented it, Alpha had turned to face him.

"Ferone, is there something you need?" Alpha barked gruffly, a wave of dominance washed over Ferone.

Ferone gulped and raised his head. "No- but there's something I need to tell you." He tried not to quiver his voice. "The Parnes-"

"Parnes?!" Alpha cut him off with a furious growl, thankfully not loud enough for any wolf to hear. "Tell me what those half-hearted rats want."

"They want to take the new territory, so they proposed a battle over it- I mean it could be an act or something," Ferone explained, fear and doubt bit at his haunches - he didn't want to hurt his acquaintance; Starling.

Then Alpha turned away. "Ferone, get some rest." But before Ferone could question him, the larger wolf stared back at him; his fierce eyes glowed in the shadows.

"We're going to give the Parnes what they deserve."
