Moonlit Eyes, Chapter 2
The flames quickly went out, but burn marks on the ground were left. “Remember. Control your emotions, control your magic..” Willow said calmly. What do you know about my magic? This time, he managed to keep it under control with a grumble. “And so, that begins our lecture on what to do in the Dusk tribe base. The local cats know I'm visiting with you all, but you must be careful.“There is always a possibility that the Dusk tribe will be attacked. This is mostly because of how low the population of cats in the tribe is... But anyway! Always stay on high alert. You also must remember why we are here in the first place; we are going there to show that you are ready to head into battle..” Willow looked at the kittens sadly. Midnight figured he cared for the kittens, and sending them into battle was the last thing he wanted to do if it made them upset. Stripenight and Firstmorn both sighed in the background.
“What?! But- we’re going to die on that battlefield! Father, please don’t send us! Father..?” Starcry was outraged. “She has a point…” Sundune said quietly. “You won’t be in battle immediately. After you all turn two, we will visit again and see how you all are doing.” Stripenight reminded Willow. “And then comes war..” Sundune added. Sundune had the power of mind-reading, and it came in handy when someone was lying. Midnight, as demonstrated before, had fire magic. Heatflare obtained the power of heat paws. On command, his paws can become scalding hot and burn anything they touch.
Starcry could summon flowers as dark as night, but the flowers weren't normal. She called them ‘Sin Flowers’ because if someone were to touch the flowers, it would remind the said cat of their mistakes. “That’s... Better?” Heatflare sounded confused. “Hang on. Didn’t the legends say ‘Once the kittens come of age, peace between the tribes shall wage.’? That makes no sense. Once we all turn two, we aren’t considered kittens anymore.” Midnight shot Heatflare a look.
Sundune sighed. “Midnight, don't you dare say what I'm hearing in your head.” Stripenight chuckled. “What Willow is trying to say is we need to be on high alert. Now, we must go. We don't want to delay Gala’s meeting any longer.” Midnight stopped. Gala? Wasn’t that Starcry’s mom? “Midnight, come on! Race you there!” “Sundune, now! Just bite my tail so I know you're behind me.” “Dad, despite my eyes being disabled, I still have perfectly good ears.” 'Well, All heroes start somewhere.' Midnight thought as he stepped into the warm light of the winter morning sun. 'But am I fit for my destiny?'
