Learning To Trust Is Like Learning To Breathe
I awake to the sound of popping meat. I sit up groggily and stand up. Hmm besides the meat the house is otherwise soundless. I get up and slowly walk climb down the stairs and walk into the kitchen to find Xander standing there cooking. I smile mischievously and walk up behind him. When I get close enough I throw my arms around his waist and hug him.“Hey there” I whisper in his ear laughing
“You’re awake now I see?” he says not laughing.
“What did I do wrong? You said I could sleep and when I wake up you start acting like a jerk” I exclaim.
“Nothing. Just...don’t worry about it. I think this meat is done.” He pulls away and starts putting the food onto plates.
I can only stand there amazed at his change of heart. I decided to trust him and now he’s acting like nothing happened yesterday. “No you can eat I’m going for a walk.” I say.
He says nothing. He just stands there putting the food out.
When I walk out I think I hear a muttered sorry. When I walk out into the backyard of this place I cast my senses out and listen for anything out of the ordinary. Nothing. I don’t even hear any birds. This town sucks. I can’t believe it. No action anywhere. I don’t think I can stay here with Xander if he’s going to do this to me.
“Don’t worry sweetie” Happiness interjects, “He is just confused because he doesn’t understand why you don’t trust him.”
“But I want to trust him…” I reply.
“Well you have to show him you trust him”
“By the way, why is it so quiet right now? I mean there isn’t a sound going on anywhere.” I ask irritated.
“Well why you don’t go on that so called walk you said you were going on.” Anger interjects.
“Fine I will.” With that I start walking. I don’t know where I’m going. I just know that it’s around this town. When I finally stop I notice that I’ve just walked the block. Great I’m back where I started. When I look around I see Xander standing on the porch. “Hey” I say quietly
“Hey...we need to talk about something” He replies.
“Okay…” I walk inside. “What is it” I say as I turn I’m met with his lips on mine. I don’t know what to do so I just kiss him back. It’s amazing.
“I’m so sorry about earlier. I was confused then when you walked out I realized that you need to learn how to trust.” He whispers after pulling back.
“I do trust you. I decided that I trust you while I was on my walk. I need somebody I trust because what’s the use of being out if I can’t trust the only person who hasn’t ran from me in fear of death.” I whisper back.
Then he smiles and that’s the last thing I see before I black out.
