The Boy in the town
Today I was so fed up with being alone, I decided to get into town, just to see how normal people lived their lives. It was so crazy down there. I like my quiet life in a tree, where I can hear gentle waterfalls and the birds’ song. Not a super loud environment where people bump into each other in their hurry to get to some, important place. But right when I was about to leave, something caught my eye. Well, actually, someONE caught my eye.He sort of blended into the crowd. He wore a faded blue jacket and jeans. Actually, he could almost pass as a regular kid. But he was too scrawny for that; and even though he was thin, his clothes were too tight, and they revealed his skeleton.
While I was staring into his inquisitive eyes, I started to feel unsettled. Right after I turned away I felt him walk up behind me.
Panicking I fled, but his clammy hand rested on my shoulder. “What do you want?” I challenged. “Oh.” He took a step back. “I didn’t think you’d be…”
“What?” I snarled.
“Nothing.”
“You didn’t think I’d be like what?”
“Forget it. Look, I have to go.”
“Fine.” I turned to go.
“Wait!” His eyes sparked.
“Dude, you’re really starting to freak me out. Just tell me what you need to and go!”
“Ok, fine. Look. I can see… Nevermind. You just… I have a feeling you might be one of us.”
When the word ‘us’ left his lips, the village froze and stared at us with wide eyes. Gasping, they grabbed the nearest child and ran into the nearest house and slammed the door. “Yeesh,” I said.
The boy grabbed my arm. “Come on!”
We ran up hills, across bridges, down tunnels, through caves, until we got the the jungle. He pulled me towards the treehouse in the tree. My tree house. My home. “Um, I hate to ask, but what are we doing here?” I had to know. “Well, you’ll find out.” Unwillingly I made my way up the tree house after him. Thankfully we passed the tree house and reached the top of the branch. Then, he grabbed my arm, and jumped down.
