In the Beginning

Dear Diary,
Hello, my name’s Sapphire. I’m 7 years old. I live with my mummy and my daddy in Maple Cove. It’s small but it’s home. When I’m older I want to travel the world! I want to take my parents with me though. Sorry, I got a little stain of orange juice on you, it was an accident. Mummy tried to clean you but it wouldn’t come out. Mummy gave me you on my birthday. I swear I was going to write in you sooner but I didn’t know what to write. I read a lot of stories princesses but I don’t think I can write about them. Daddy said to write how I feel. I feel happy! I hope this story will have a happy ending. Daddy says it will. I’m going to marry my prince!

Sapphire Iris the Hedgehog~ (Ps. That’s my name).


Everybody has a story. Each detail and page pilling with each decision until they have the novel of what they've become. This is the story of Sapphire. I'd take the liberty of describing how she looks, but you can clearly see through the pictures she’s posted around Qfeast. Or should I say 'selfies. Anyway, she’s finally gotten the chance to post her own story and I couldn't think of a better place then our very own Qfeast. Enjoy, if you'd like.

Sapphire didn't have that a much of a childhood, the first memory she could remember is the last with her parents, when Maple Cove, her home town, got invaded. It was a small town on the edge of a large forest that separated them from the rest of Green Hill Zone. All that's left of it today is abandoned buildings and a stupidly large amount of dust. Sapphire is actually raising funds to rebuild the town to its former glory and honour those were lost on...that unfortunate day. Don't know what I'm talking about? Let me show you...

Sapphire lived with her mum and dad in the town of Maple Cove. Her mother was a white hedgehog and father a dark blue hedgehog, nothing too different from the average Mobians. That's the problem, they were a normal family with no faults, but they lived on Mobius, nothing stays normal for long. Since they were so secluded, I guess that's why they were the best target. Eggman's robots came upon them like a tidal wave, destroying their doors and the safety of our home before dragging them all to the town centre, where a certain egg shaped man sat in his pod, grinning at the sounds of screams and cries.
"Maple Cove!" His voice echoed around the town. "I am Eggman, your new ruler! You are all very lucky, you get to part of my army." He posed. "To defeat Sonic the Hedgehog!" Not being able to keep quiet Sapphire boos as loud as she can earning the attention of the wicked man. Of course, everyone knew who the Freedom Fighters were, they were famous all across Mobius, however, Sapphire didn't like Sonic that much. He was a bit of a show off, too cocky. Although her view quickly changed when she realised what she’d just gotten herself into. Her parents cried and pleaded with Eggman to leave her be, but he wouldn't listen.
"Stupidity should be punished." He snarled as one of the robots pushed Sapphire forward.
"What's your name, rat?" Trying not to show fear, Sapphire held her nose high.
"Sapphire Iris." He glared at the small hedgehog and she faulted. "Sir." He smirked and sat back laughing in his pod.
"So you can be trained, too bad." The robot picked her up and threw her forward sending her hurdling away from her home into the forest.

Screaming bloody murder, Sapphire landed on the ground but kept rolling until she was at the edge of the forest. She didn't get up, she just laid there, earning the attention of a certain blue hedgehog.
"Hey, are you okay? That was some fall!" He says holding his hand out for her to grab. Sapphire smiled up at him and took his hand. Sonic the Hedgehog, in the flesh...fur...whatever.
"Whats your name?" He asked when Sapphire was off the ground.
"It's Sapphire, Sapphire the hedgehog."
"Well, I'm Sonic, Sonic the hedgehog"
"I know, my parents are fans...Oh!" Her sudden outburst caught him off guard. He was rubbing under his nose slowly, a strange habit she’d noticed of his. "My parents! My village! Sonic, they're in danger!"
"Danger?" He jumped back dramatically.
"Egghead- I mean, Eggman is trying to-" She was cut off by the swift wave of his hand.
"If Eggman is involved, I can handle it. Where do you live?"
"Maple Cove! Just past of the forest." Sonic nodded as Sapphire gestured in the vague direction of her village. With another swift nod he took her hand and ran into the forest with her directing him along the way. Left, right, up the jump. The smoke could be seen from above the trees and Sapphire had to choke back a sob.

Upon arrival the two had hid behind some rubble. Sonic was telling Sapphire to keep quiet but she wasn't paying attention to him. Past the rubble, the smoke and the decay, was her parents. They laid on the floor, lifeless, multiple cuts and bruises on her mother while my father had a server wound to his head. Sapphire cried. Sonic comforted her in attempt to quiet her, not understanding what she’d just seen. He followed his gaze to Sapphire’s parents and faulted. He looked to me, to them and back again this time holding the hedgehog girl’s distressed gaze.
"I'll be right back." He whispered. "Stay here." With that he ran off into crumbling houses, probably helping the injured. She should have done what he said and stayed put, but her gaze wondered over to her parents again. Slowly, she stood from her place behind the rubble and walked over, seeing it as her last chance to say goodbye. An annoying low buzz sounded behind her, but I didn't turn around.
"How strange, the fall should have killed you." Eggman pondered from his pod. "You seem to be the last creature left in this village." Before I could retaliate , a sudden crash echoed from the distance and they saw a blue blur zoom towards them. “Sonic! How did he-“ Eggman’s gaze landed on the trembling girl and he sneered. Something metallic wrapped around her waist and she was too grief struck to care, until a voice caught her attention.
"Sapphire!" Sonic yelled following the pod as it carried her away. "Sapph!" His voice brought Sapphire back into reality and she struggled frantically.
"Sonic!" But it was too late. He was out of sight. Eggman had escaped.
