I looked at Ashley. She was sleeping like an angel. I wish I was as pretty as you Ashley. I sighed. But why, why did she run away? Was it something I said? "Emma! Here, hot soup!" "Thank you ma'am!" I tasted my soup. Not bad, needs a little salt though. "So, how's Ashley?" I asked. "She sprained her ankle. She just needs some rest, that's all, she'll be fine after that." Martina smiled at me. Ashley started waking up. "I better leave you two alone." Martina said and then went out. "Ashley? Are you ok?" "Yeah, I'm great!" she sarcastically answered. "Ashley? Why did you run away? Is it because you don't feel comfortable talking about your mom? Or?" Ashley didn't answer. Silence. She then nodded. "I don't know if I should tell you this, it's kind of a secret..." "It's ok! You don't have to tell me." I said. She looked at me. "One year ago, my mom discovered she had cancer. The doctors said she wouldn't live for long. At first my mom said nothing but after a few months, she told us, told us that she doesn't have a long time to live and she may die soon. We were all shocked. She's still fighting but a few signs show that her body is soon going to collapse. She stays at the hospital every single day, we don't really get to see her. My sister is the only thing I've got." She started crying. I came up to her and gave her hug. After a few minutes she calmed down. "Ew! When Sarah hears that I cuddled up with you geek face, she's going to freak!" She then started laughing and I joined in. "You know geek face, I could start liking you." I smiled. That was my first compliment that I got from a person besides my mom. We walked back to the cabin together. I helped her and we both went to sleep. The next day, we had to wake up at 5 am. We went to eat breakfast together. "So, did you sleep well?" I asked. "Listen, geek face, just because I was nice to you yesterday, doesn't mean that we're friends." I continued eating. "But I slept well and you?" "Like a rock!" And we both laughed.
