chapter 7
~BACK TO KATHERINE~I'm right outside my old house. The house I have lived in for so long. The walls are cream-coloured with small, dainty windows splattered across them. Gleaming, the white door shines in the scorching sunlight and the brass handle twinkles. How do I look? How do I look? Through the reflection of the glass, I see a girl with wavy blonde hair piled into a extremely messy bun, wispy bits spilling out and framing her face. Her eyes seem big and cornflower blue. Her cheekbones rise and her lips are parted, and look as red as ripe cherries. She looks thin, with an hourglass figure, like a perfect rose ready to float by the breeze. She's wearing an floating, aqua peter pan blouse with ripped, white jeans and pumps.
That girl can't be me. She's too pretty- For the first time since ever, I truly look at myself, notice how much I've changed and grown. My old expression would be cheeky and carefree, now a serious, nervous and fragile expression is plastered onto my face. Hastily, I knock on the door and clatter the brass handle. Whispers rise from the other side and the door slowly rises revealing my mother. Her hands are covered in cookie dough, probably form the cookie-cake she's making. Her eyes are large, the colours of almonds and she still looks the same, although some wrinkles have now etched onto her skin. Her lips beam into a smile as she shrieks my name. "KATHERINEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!"
Bliss. Joy whooshes over me as she spins me round and round, followed by my father with his hair still the same blonde, but highlights of grey. Soon I realise my entire family is here, gran, grandpa, Aunt Eve, Uncle Joe, Cousin Teresa, Cousin Jojo, uncle Dominic, Aunt Dominica...
Everyone falls silent as they take me in. "She's grown!" "She looks so different!" "Wow, she's turned into a right damsel!" "She's grown to be even more beautiful!" Their words make me glow until suddenly my eyes land on someone in the corner. Her mousy brown hair
falls limp in her high ponytail, her almond eyes (from mum) are huge and frightened, her skin is porcelain and smooth, with a scatter
of freckles on her nose. She looks cuter than me, more sweeter, but I look prettier, hotter.
Anger bubbles up inside me. "YOU SAID SHE WOULDN'T BE HERE!" Mum gasps and runs after me as I speed up the stairs, the familiar route to my old room. I yank open the door then almost pass out in shock. My room has been changed, redecorated. Or as
I call it, destroyed. Instead of the turquoise walls with aqua waves, it's been changed to pink with white polka dots. The floating, shimmering, blue curtains have been replaced by fluffy neon pink ones. I could go on. Oh and that girl I saw, It was Lea.
The girl who cheated with husband.
