Should the government have the right to determine who can get married or whether people can marry? When people decide to get married, should the government get a say in whether they can or can't?

Not at all. Love is love, it shouldn't be against the law to marry your same gender and what not like it is in some places.

I don't think it should. It's nothing to do with my religion (closest to Christianity but not totally sure), it's just...why should it get to have a say in my relationship?
On the religion side of things, a marraige should be between God and the people who want to get married.

No, The government shouldn’t get into everything you do. It’s called freedom.

That's a really stupid question.
How is it stupid, exactly?
It was a metaphore, Also, it's the same exact meaning. I'm sorry that you don't see how the question could be viewed as rediculous And I'm sorry we aren't seeing eye to eye on it?

Basically, I'm asking whether or ot the government should have anything to do with marraige in general.

Parents' opinions have nothing to do with the question though. I'm asking whether the government should be able to tell you if you can marry someone or not. For example, if I decided to marry someone, should the government have any say in whether or not we marry? That's what I'm asking. I'm not talking about freedom, or anything else really.

Well, depending on where you live, I live in the United States, the government is based off of freedom of speech and such and therefore is going against your rights. Secondly, would you want your parents picking out an old man or woman as your future spouse? Would you want your parents telling you you can't date who you want to date? Also, would you rather marry See More whom you love or whom the government deems as a perfect match for you which would usually be about 50% accurate maybe less? The fact of the matter is that it goes against what our soldiers have fought so hard to protect, freedom.
