why do you think people take sides even though the other is right?

It depends, I guess

I think it’s because if people have an opinion or statement that then gets proven wrong or contradicted by someone else they feel kind of hurt and more determined to prove their point, so they defend their answer.
Also, I think people take sides to get the sense that they belong somewhere and feel important. That can be the case in arguments a lot.
