Why do people read horror stories?

The thrill! Some people may say it not nice to be scared but some love it. They love this thrill and the adrenalin it gives you, like when your on a rolloercoaster but this time you only have to open a book. Let's call it the roller coaster of thrills...and chills X3

To scare yourself. And if its about something that I'm terrified of, its kind of my way of indirectly facing that fear and trying to get over it.
