The best feeling in the world is getting a random positive comment from a fan on a story you're unsure about.

Negative comments help you improve, though- as long as they are constructive and not just criticism.

Constructive criticism: "That was a good story, though I noticed a few grammar mistakes in the first chapter."
Criticism: "That story sucked! You're so stupid, you didn't use correct grammar!"
