Books are good because you can go at your own pace and create your own visions for the characters, scenery, etc. With words, you have the ability to convey an idea you can't show on a screen The movie also tends to condense a book to fit it into a two-to-three hour block, because no one wants to sit through a long movie.
However, I've always found an interest See More in movies and screenplays because you get a scare factor, suspense, language and emotion some people completely forget about when you read the book. For example; Jurrassic Park, the book, was made up of scientific facts and research papers and notes from the characters' perspectives. The movie(s), however, put the reader INTO the park, giving them a chance to connect with the characters they read about.
(Finally, aesthetics: there's only so much liberty you're given with ink on paper.)
