FISHING FOR STARS
It was late at night and I heard the cars
Rush by my window when my father said, "Would you like to fish for stars?"
I held Papa's hand as we flew to perch upon the moon
And we saw the stars, silver bulbs of light strewn
Across the cold, black coat of night resting on Day's shoulders
We looked below at the long, green pines and the smooth, silver boulders See More
Papa handed me a rod, I casted it across
The Milky Way concealing day with one quick toss
My rod hung limply as me and Papa talked, about the evening sky
Darkening from a dark blue to a black in the blink of an eye
And then my long, shiny rod stiffened as it caught something and from afar
I glimpsed a silver, shiny light- I had caught a star.
Father commented, saying it was big, it was warm and soft, too
And we grabbed the star and put away our rods and from the moon to the house we flew
And in the safety of our house we put inside a jar
A shiny, silver, soft, and warm
Whisper of a star.
