I wrote a rant for my school project:
To the editor,
This is a rant. Our world is messed up. We completely ignore the war going on, there is a war going on right in font of us and nobody is acknowledging it! It gets almost no media coverage and almost all of that is on non-mainstream networks like the ABC. We let the rich get richer as the poor get poorer. We won’t let people get married because “the bible says it’s bad” what does the bible have to do with them? If you do not See More agree don’t get married, It’s them not you!
A massive problem is drugs, including alcohol which people seem seem to forget is a drug. We need to work harder at helping people with addictions and treat it more like a medical condition not a criminal offence. Coming off drugs is hard. A lot of addicts suffer depression as they go through withdrawals. Alcohol is a bad drug, worse than marijuana that is illegal. Alcohol intensifies anger and drunks are often very aggressive. There are on average 97,000 (about 9,000 of those from drink driving) alcohol related deaths annually whilst there are only 30,000 of marijuana deaths (0 of which from overdose). We are having an ice epidemic. Methamphetamine use has tripled in the last five years. Around 59,000 15-24 year olds are KNOWN users, all up there are 268,000 known users in Australia. We need to make more programs with things to entertain people so they do not get bored and start experimenting with drugs. We also need more support groups for families of addicts.
Marriage equality. Everybody is talking about it but nothing is really being done, it has just been put back on the shelf to look at later! In addition, if marriage is for pro-creation only does that mean we must ban infertile couples from marrying?! It does not deny a mother and father figure. It is not evil. To deny people marriage is stupid. The only thing we can do to fix this issue is make it legal.
