@Danks yeah- THIS is the way to teach kids the periodic table! (Now I've memorized up to Californium.) I also saw a video where dogs carry different colored balls and stuff representing protons and electrons and neutrons, and they teach you about cells. It explained it 10 times better than my school did!

Chapter 8
I rushed over to Ollie's side. He moaned and blinked a few times, trying to get his surroundings. But then his eyes focused on me.
His face turned dark. He tried to stand up, but only rose a few inches before collapsing. "I hate you!" he managed to rasp. "Why did you do this? Why? I deserved to die! I hate you!"
I shushed him, and smoothed his hair. "Shh. No, you didn't deserve to die. The thing with Bea happened so fast that no one was thinking."
"I know - and we should have been! She's my s... Read Full Chapter

Chapter Seven
Renee finished wrapping the stump and turned to look at me. She gave me a warm smile. "Kaylee!" She embraced me, and then pulled away. I studied her.
She didn't look like she had before, but she didn't look terrible, either. Her fingernails and under her eyes were tinted with the black liquid, but it wasn't dripping out. Then I saw a bandage on her arm, stained black.
She noticed me looking. "Do you want to see what's underneath it?"
I hesitated for a second, but then nodded. She unwrapped th... Read Full Chapter

Chapter Six
We leaned against the school. We'd all gone back to it, after Bea died. It was abandoned. Ana held a notepad and pen, making a list of all the warnings the parasite had given us.
Ollie stared at a chipmunk that was warily looking at him.
"It was my fault," he whispered, clenching his fists. "I should have known. I should have stopped Bea. It's my fault she's dead."
I patted him on the back. "Shh, shh. It happened so quickly. None of us were thinking-"

Chapter Five
We huddled, shivering. The sky was growing dark. Ten feet away was a tree.
"Should we touch it?" I asked, casting a fearful glance at the tree before looking back at Ana.
Ana shook her head. "No, it's not worth it," she said. "So far, the predictions of the parasite have been correct."
I coughed, clearing the black liquid from my mouth, and rubbed my eyes. "That's true. And it didn't even tell us all of the dangers - it just said that there were more."
"We'll just have to learn through trial ... Read Full Chapter

Chapter Four
We trekked through a meadow, stopping every now and then to clear our eyes or mouth out. The liquid definitely came out less often, although we didn't want to let it build up and clog our system like that again.
Baxter held up a hand, and we all stopped. "Let's rest for a bit," he said, sitting down on the dusty ground. Then he did a double take. "Hey, look!" he said with a chuckle.
"What is it?" I asked, glancing around.
Baxter pointed to a thing on the ground. "It's an ant!" He put his hand... Read Full Chapter
